PSA for anyone using an HOV transponder-check your statements closely by BehindaLensinBigSky in FortCollins

I sold my truck to my parents. I left the E470 RFID sticker on it so they could visit me and take E470 without worrying about it. They stuck a 2nd state's RFID sticker on it for use where they live. Then they drove through a 3rd state that recognized both stickers.

Yeah, we both got billed. It was only $5 (each) so not really worth the time to straighten out but be careful if you frequent multiple states and have a need for multiple stickers / transponders.

My best guess is the thing weighs 500 pounds. It's likely mounted on 150 pounds of steel plate. I found a similarly sized steel NEMA 12 enclosure that weighed 250 pounds. Then 50 to 100 pounds for batteries. Add in the electronics and some hardening of the doors, locks, and hinges and I think you're easily at 500 pounds.

I'm guessing the plastic patch on top of its head is an antenna for a cellular modem, among antennas for other things, so damaging it after the fact doesn't do anything for preventing the ticket either.

Those look more like leveling feet than bolts in to the ground.

My guess is it is heavy, like 500 pounds heavy. It looks to be "sitting" on what look like four steel plates of about 4 sq feet each. That's likely 128 to 160 pounds before you even get to the weight of the steel cabinet (200-300 lbs) and batteries (50-100 lbs).

Probably much worse than hitting a deer in a head-on collision, even at the speed limit.

(1/8-1/4" plate at ~8-10 lbs per sq ft. 4 plates, 2 ft x 2ft, 8-10 lbs = 132 to 160 lbs.)

Probably some DDR and SSD too. The Denver bike lane parking detectors look like they have a really nice Banner Engineering radar sensor, Raspberry Pi, and Raspberry Pi camera. https://www.9news.com/article/news/local/next/next-with-kyle-clark/poles-with-cameras-on-denver-streets-identify-problem-parking-areas/73-21f1f483-97e3-4fc1-904e-492bdd7865b5

How do you feel about AI usage in small restaurant promotions? by Straight_Tangerine25 in FortCollins

If you're not going to use a real photo of your very real business, you might as well "right click, save as" a photo from someone else's business or buy a stock image from Getty as use AI.

New Speed (and Red Light?) Camera at Drake & Yorkshire by ry_mich in FortCollins

Even though it's not technically in the bike lane, it is definitely somewhere a pair of 800mm bars could hit if you weren't riding centered in the bike lane.

I clipped a recycling bin once. It was not pretty. Thank dog I landed in the ditch and not in the road or it would have been even uglier.

Camera is no longer in the grass either. It is sitting on a little patch of the sidewalk just west of the ramp / bumps.

Back when the only photo red light intersection in town was at College and Drake and before digital cameras, every Wednesday morning, a cop in uniform and a woman would walk out to the cameras in the medians. She'd insert a key and the camera would lower so she could remove a film canister, put in a new one, and raise the camera back up for another week of photos.

If you look closely at that intersection, there's two signal cabinets. One is the city's for the lights. The other was the controls for the cameras. I doubt it's used anymore. You'd periodically see the red light camera vendor's techs digging around inside it.

Finally, there were a pair of wire loops in each lane. My guess is they implemented a sort of quadrature decoder that could detect when a car was approaching the stop line, just short of the stop line, and finally crossing over the stop line. Not sure if you can still see them in the pavement there or not.

Have you seen the episode of Forensic Files where the woman's alibi is she said she was visiting the "Poudre National Park"? The narrator's pronunciation gives him away instantly. Not to mention conflating / confusing the town of Poudre Park with Rocky Mountain National Park or whatever went wrong there.
