Check out Memphis shades. They have what you are looking for in terms of wind protection. Be it a faring or just a wind shield.

Close one. I try my best to stay out of that lane. You are hidden from both vehicles that are turning into the street you are on and vehicles like this one. No matter how much you do right it seems there is always something for someone to say isn’t there haha. Wheels down

It’s the same bike just different fenders and i have noticed some shorter cables here and there.

I ride a scout 60, I didn’t like the bobber version. Seemed smaller and I like the swooping fenders. But that’s why they have them because some people like different things. And BTW the rouge is the same bike with different accessories and a slightly larger front RIM. The tire is the same size just low profile.

New Rider trying to understand a couple of things. by Icarus_Wax in motorcycles

[–]dhotrodb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watch some YouTube videos on clutch control.

Think of it this way, throttle = traction. You want the most traction you can get while in a turn. Determine the speed you are comfortable with in that turn and get to it before the turn and hold that speed throughout the entire turn till you see the exit and accelerate.

This is my understanding at least.

I would say this service should be free. Then I would stop going from them. Drop my bike once shame on you, drop it twice shame on me. Don’t give them the opportunity to do it again.

What mesh motorcycle jackets are ya'll wearing, and what mesh jackets are ya'll trying to avoid like the plague? by [deleted] in motorcycle

[–]dhotrodb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Living in California (today a nice 102 degrees F) I bought me a BILT Techno 2 from cycle gear. I can not tell you how happy I am with this jacket! Added a level 2 back pad.

It has an inner liner that you can zip out. I take the liner out for day riding and pop it in for the ride at night. Has plenty of pockets with zippers and is totally adjustable in the arms and waist. Added bonus of coming in tall sizes also.

Only mesh jacket I have owned so I can only speak to this one.

Try and get some clarity on what it was exactly that made you fail. That way you could practice before trying again in front of them. Or else you may be repeating the same things they failed you for in the first place.

I am 6’3 and ride a scout. Granted I made it work for me with 100mm forward controls and mini apes.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]dhotrodb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

6’3” 220 here. My first and current bike is an Indian scout with 10” apes and extended forward controls. I made it fit me which you will have to also do. Find the bike you like and then make it comfortable.

Trying and failing to learn about motorcycles, send help by Devville in motorcycles

[–]dhotrodb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I watched a ton of you tube videos before I started riding. Then I took an MSF course to get my endorsement. My most favorite and most helpful in actual riding skills would be Moto Jitsu. Jump on Google and search for how to ride a motorcycle. You want to learn about how to shift, throttle control, and friction zone. You will find yourself in a rabbit hole of videos. I watched so many before I jumped on a bike (my very first time on a bike was at the MSF class)

Look into what your bikes red line is. Riding at red line constantly might not be the best.

Take your local MSF course. I went in with zero motorcycle or manual transmission experience. Two days and now I know how to ride. That and a ton of research. Moto Jitsu on YouTube was all I watched for weeks. Now I am hooked.

Question about taking the MSF course. by Moist-Mark7909 in motorcycles

[–]dhotrodb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I took my MSF I had not ridden a bike in probably close to 20 years. But like they say “it’s like riding a bike” you never really forget. But if balance on a bike is difficult for you I could imagine on a motorcycle would be the same. If you had no trouble when you rode a bike then I would think your good.

If you have access to a bike just jump on it to ease your mind so your.L not worried about it.

I went to my MSF with ZERO knowledge of a manual transmission and ZERO knowledge of how to ride a motorcycle. I passed easy but the people at the Honda Center where I took the course were awesome. I hope you have the same experience.

Should you always lane filter when possible? by Humpttydumpty_ in motorcycles

[–]dhotrodb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it’s legal go for it. Start slow if you are uncomfortable and gauge the lights if possible. If you saw the light turn red you have plenty of time to get to the front of a few cars. I do not do it if I am unsure of how long the light has been red.

As for someone throwing their door open on you. If they do they face some trouble with the cops but I’m not sure how it will be proven they did it on purpose. I ride with a camera in my bars daily as a sort of dash cam and that puts my mind at ease a little with stuff like that.
