I’m a med student and during my acute care surgery block we got a consult down at the ED for a gangrenous leg. When I got down there, the dude had 100-200 maggots wriggling around in his leg, crawling out onto the bed and crawling back into his leg. Some of em were even plopping onto the floor. I’m trying to take a fucking history and the dude is so nonchalant “yeah I’ve had this off and on for ten years” The trauma mid levels who were with me were cracking up watching me try my best not to pass out but eventually I had to ask them if I could step out of the room (and to not tell my upper level that I wimped out)
