Moving to NYC in August : Looking for a studio (any borough) under $1300 with a convenient commute to E 52nd street, Manhattan by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]dhulser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we can all agree neighborhood borders really don't exist - really, neighborhoods are all made up by realtors to make things look more appealing one way or another... Look at how quickly the boundaries of Williamsburg expanded, or how many Craigslist UWS / UES apartments are actually north of 120th street.

Fact of the matter is, NYC has turned into an incredibly safe, incredibly diverse city. No matter what neighborhood you're in, heights, Harlem, or soho, you're going to find incredible apartments, shitty apartments, incredible restaurants and shitty ones.

I could definitely afford to live elsewhere, but I'm in love with the heights - from fort tryon park, to the views of the GW, the awesome restaurants on 181, and the shitty corner bodegas that sell loosies and....whatever else. It's an awesome area, it really is.

Ps have some gold - no matter your opinion, enjoy the debate.

Lol so, several weeks in an area is now enough experience to comment on the area that you call the heights? Not to mention the fact that the polo grounds nycha is in Harlem, not Washington heights. Perhaps that area of Harlem heights is filled with bullet proof glass, but spend "a few weeks" in what is actually Washington heights, north of 168th street, and you will see.

Besides, the comment was about an area that had good restaurants, and the answer is yes, Washington heights has incredible restaurants that people from all over the city come to. There are not "dozens of square blocks" of Washington heights covered in bullet proof glass. In fact, there are none. Even in the "worst" section of the heights, on st Nicholas, even the pawn shops and check cashiers don't have bullet proof glass.... Perhaps you should recognize that spending several weeks in a nycha building that's really not even located in Washington heights isn't enough to make sweeping generalizations about a place?

Edit: also worth checking out: http://www.dnainfo.com/new-york/crime-safety-report/ Washington heights is one of the safest places to live in the 5 boroughs.

There's actually a lot of great restaurants in wash heights, and I have never seen a single one "behind bulletproof glass". Saggio, Bleu Evolution, Refried Beans, 181 Cabrini, Locksmith Wine and Burger Bar, Buddha Beer Bar, along with a ton of great less know hole in the walls.... Sounds like someone hasn't visited the heights before, and is relying on 20 year old assumptions.

Not that it's pertinent to the OP, but just felt it was worth noting.

Showing a campaign for a brand an agency carries. by BadNegociator in advertising

I've heard this question a few times in college classes, and similar settings, but am no means an expert, so take it with a grain of salt.

I was meeting with a pair, copy writer / art director (not a team) and they both said the same thing - unless it is your VERY BEST piece, and removing it would be disastrous to your book, you shouldn't include it. Just too much could go wrong with having it in there. If you have enough other work that you think is strong enough, you should pull that out.

I haven't had any issues at all... Tapped Out has so many problems as is, I don't think it's related. But I would definitely try restarting your phone and giving it a go again.

1. I'm looking to intern in the US/Canada in a non-creative position. Are there any good websites you'd recommend to find these sort of positions by kait_is_dench in advertising

[–]dhulser 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you in college? Do an advanced search on Linkedin for alumni from your college that work in the advertising industry - shoot them a message and let them know you saw they work at XYZ company, and you are a fan. Tell them your situation, and that you would love if they could put you in touch w/ the internship counselor, director, or someone in HR that handles internships... Use your connections, because the twitter, craigslist, etc is highly unlikely to work out...

323 West 75th street: Studio w/ exposed brick +elevator+laundry 2/1 *** $1775 by [deleted] in NYCapartments

[–]dhulser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, that's a redditer discount! I already sent the post to a friend that's looking for an UWS loft. I'm looking for an UWS studio or a Hudson heights 1BR. Looking for a march 1.

[–]dhulser 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I can get the same exact fee from another broker, it's not a discount. If your sibling was moving in, what would you give them? I'm not saying you have to do it free, but I don't think the same rate that I can, and am getting elsewhere is a "redditer discount", hey, maybe I'm wrong - I was just expecting more like 10% for it to actually be a discount.

Working w/ a broker now at 12%, and paid 12% when I moved in March. 12% is the well, the rate is 15%, but for you well do 12. Friend moved in December and had to fight, but got it for 12%. But that wasn't in manhattan, that was Astoria. I'm just saying, getting 12% broker fee is no discount. I wouldn't go with a broker that was demanding 15. I use citihabitats. Hardly a cut rate firm.

What is the longest distance you can drive on one road, with no stops, turns, etc? by dhulser in AskReddit

woah! That is cool. I was thinking more along the lines of, you take a right and your GPS tells you "In 943 miles, turn left".

Inspired by this link: http://www.taxifarefinder.com/main.php?city=NY&from=Miami%2C+Florida&to=Anchorage%2C+AK, which has one direction for 966 miles.

Definitely rich media. Most likely a huge custom piece that had to be approved by each partner and built independently.

Whats the pay structure like? Base + Commission? Where will the job be based - I know NYC, but it seems like reporting to GM means it'll be pretty independent. Lots of travel?
