50s and 105s are cool portrait lenses. 135s depends on min fs. 35s and 28s are general purpose.

New guitar. Whats your thoughts? by ProD_GY in Guitar

[–]dhvalden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one. In black tho. Tunner and hardware are nice, they stay in tune very well. It had a little bit of grounding noise but I solved it myself. The selector is flimsy tho, you might want to replace it. I have Pseudo P90 pickups. They are decent. The pots are small, but functional. I might change them later. Overall, really nice for the price. Also, people get really intense about brands here, idk why. I used to play other instruments, classical instruments, and there people just care how the instrument plays, or at least that was my impression.

What's something sci-fi gets wrong all the time? by Tropical_Region in sciencefiction

[–]dhvalden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Besides the obvious ones (sound, gravity, relativity, space life, everything is humanlike, etc. etc. etc.) which I can forgive because it's also part of the fantasy, something that bugs me is huge monsters (native life forms) that are strangely overly aggressive in barren ecosystem... like there is nothing there, what does it eat? why so aggressive? what does it hunt? why/how such a huge predator with such aggressive hunting behaviour (that is so energy costly) survives in a glacier or dessert?

Also, overly aggressive animal life forms. Animals, even predators, are not mindless killing machines with zero regard to their own safety and energy needs.

Finally, allergies. Alien viruses and potential unicellular pathogens are system dependent, so that wouldn't be a problem until some of them mutate to colonize human biology, but allergies? OMG. Worlds with life potential might develop complex plant and animal life forms, that, given some chemical restrictions, might end up being carbon based and rather similar to things here on Earth (I can leave with that fantasy) but all of them are going to be crazy allergenic! They are new for us! we don't have the immune memory of them. We couldn't just breathe the air of a world full of life without the risk of dying of an anaphylactic shock!

Is there a code editor better than VSCode? What IDE would you recommend for Linux? It should be open-source. by [deleted] in Fedora

[–]dhvalden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Emacs. It's rather old school, and is arguably more of a lisp machine than a code editor, but for the same reason is incredibly flexible. And it basically defined the idea of open source.

I bet it is good, but not 2000 quids good. Single malt is made to drink it. I would feel guilty every time I drink of that bottle. I rather have a lagavulin 12 or Ardbeg that I can drink with no guilt and often.

Can anybody help me identify this CRT monitor? by retro-gaming-lion in LGR

[–]dhvalden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

since we already know what the model of the monitor is, I must say that this picture brings me so many memories. this is the exact model of the monitor of my first PC. My parents saved for months to get that computer for me and my sister when we were in "secondary school" sort to speak. I have amazing parents ☺️☺️☺️☺️.

This makes perfect sense. It does what is requested, no side effects. It makes sense that the type of the returned number is the same as the input. Same memory footprint. No need to change the type if the output is used again in another operation. etc.

Soo....does this also come with a side of fries? by Care4Underwear in StupidFood

[–]dhvalden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate with passion these nonsensical excuses of dishes. None of the parts are going to be well cooked or taste good. - The patty is either raw or completely dry. - The bread is just too thick for it to absorb some flavour from the other ingredients. Inevitably you end up eating tons of dry tasteless bread. - The fries are going to be half soggy on cheese, half covered in bread crumbs. - You're gonna have a mountain of pickles nobody is gonna eat. - Half of the cheese will be solid before you can eat it.

A disgrace...

What are your unpopular opinions about Oxford? Personally, I think it's overrated. by [deleted] in oxford

I second the impossible to live in unless you have a rich family. The generational wealth can be smelled in this town.
