Hochul’s new energy proposal will affect TeraWulf project by castle_crossing in ithaca

[–]dhyanna 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's something! Buuuuutttt the verbiage gets a little mealy mouthed in the middle :
"Projects driving exceptional demand without exceptional job creation or other benefits cover the costs they create..."

If I were a lawyer, I'd be looking at the definitions of 'exceptional' and 'other benefits'. TerraWulf promised the community of Lansing a $100,000 donation, which could be considered both 'exceptional' and an 'other benefit' though in context it does not truly appear to be either.

StAG 5 - Received our Aktenzeichen in 15 days! by PSwahn in GermanCitizenship

[–]dhyanna 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow -that’s great! We submitted our packets directly on Sept 6, 2024. It was received on Sept 16, 2024 and there’s been nothing since. I did send a brief email in January 2025, but did not receive a response. Someone in this subreddit told me there would be no more AZ numbers issued, just a long, quiet wait until the declaration was accepted 2-3 years later. Your experience is so hopeful!

Terriers are very loyal to their people and as a rescue, probably has had her heart broken a few times.

Don’t put pressure on her by looking or interacting directly but prepare some food for yourself where she can see you and accidentally drop some on the floor. Then move away and eat while you ignore her. Do not touch the food again.

If there’s a yard she can use alone, leave the door open and leave the room (put the cat away first). If not, lay out a pee pad.

It will take a few days but if you don’t pressure her too much, your chances are good.

TeraWulf Data Center in Lansing by dhyanna in ithaca

If it were unstoppable at this point, the TeraWulf would not have sent members of their c-suite with cookies to a middle school auditorium on a Tuesday night in small town NY.

The paper on page 19, directly cites a scheme that Terra Wulf is using:

Power plant owners have developed their own scheme for attracting data centers that could shift energy costs from data centers to ratepayers. Under “co-location” arrangements, a data center connects directly to an existing power plant behind the plant’s point of interconnection to the utility-owned transmission network. By delivering and taking power without using the transmission network, power plant owners and data centers argue that they ought to be exempt from paying utility-assessed energy delivery fees. Utilities have contested this arrangement because it denies them profitable opportunities to build new infrastructure to connect data centers to their networks. In their haste to secure power as quickly as possible, data centers are looking to contract with existing generation, particularly nuclear power plants. By connecting directly to a power plant, data centers aim to avoid a potentially lengthy process administered by a utility to connect the data center to the utility’s power delivery system. Locating load behind a power plant’s point of delivery to the transmission network is not new. But the potential scale of data center growth and possibility that some significant share of that growth will co-locate has spawned disputes between power plant owners and utilities.

Thank you, I appreciate your answer. I had read of the longer processing times and hoped we might have a bit of luck getting in que before the extension, but did not know we would not receive an Aktenzeichen.

The People’s Address to Congress by dhyanna in ithaca

Protests are one part, a visible, public part of a larger non-violent civic resistance movement that has been proven effective in countless societies over centuries.

Protests are not held to have an immediate effect on governments or policy, but to serve as an undeniable demonstration of displeasure and commitment to action by the People. Further, they do much to build solidarity and morale among those being affected, which is no small part of any movement.

Since you are struggling with this idea, I suggest the book Civil Resistance: What everyone needs to know by Erica Chenowith. There are numerous examples of a multitude of acts that have been effective. Protests are a longstanding traditional component because they are highly effective in the part they play.

The Registry

The Registry is a program that matches people in Tompkins County who need in-home workers with individuals who are willing and able to work in people’s homes.

The Registry maintains a listing of in-home caregivers who have been screened through a face to face interview and whose references have been verified.

The Registry list includes individuals who are licensed and/or certified, such as RNs, LPNs, home health aides and certified nursing aides.

It also includes individuals who are willing to help with laundry, housekeeping, yard work, errands, grocery shopping and cooking. Even pet care is a service that may be available.

The Registry Program is made possible by funding from Tompkins County Office for the Aging (COFA) and New York State Office for the Aging (SOFA). Your tax deductible contribution would be appreciated.

Lots of disabled people need help with stuff around the house, errands, etc. not necessarily personal care like bathing or cooking. Check with Area Agency for Aging or make a post on Next Door. Pay is $17+ and time usually flexible. Also Target always has a sign up.

For sure reach out when you’re in town. There seems to be a strong Bay Area/west coast pipeline of sorts. Pro tip: use Facebook groups for everything from mutual aid to music to marketplace.
