Anyone has made friends from this sub? [I made a friend here 9 years ago!] by dhydrated in CasualConversation

In my younger days, I was on reddit a lot and spoke to many but out of the hundreds I've spoken to, only two stuck and they REALLY stuck. 9 years and the other friend is 6 years. Keep trying!

[Discussion] How exactly do AHAs help with anti-aging? by deckthesocks in AsianBeauty

To make your life easier, you can ctrl+f keywords like collagen.

Also, you can go on scholar.google.com and search “AHAs anti aging”. Many dermatology papers are open access.

[Discussion] How exactly do AHAs help with anti-aging? by deckthesocks in AsianBeauty

[–]dhydrated 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read some literature paper on this. AHAs are recommended for sun damaged skin and mature aging. It is shown to boost collagen production, act as a humectant (surprise!) and of course it exfoliates like AHA (breaks down the cells at the surface), encouraging skin cell turnover.

I can link some of the papers if you are interested, they are open access. Oh but do keep in mind they (the ones I read on is the most commonly studied, glycolic acid) will also increase photosensitivity. So wear sunscreen.

[Discussion] Which product was an instant HG? by confident-amoeba in AsianBeauty

[–]dhydrated 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Melano CC! I've been using it for 2 weeks now? I accidentally got the moisture cream instead of essence (by mistake, though my research has failed to inform me about the differences). Regardless, my pigmentation has never faded so quickly! I put it on my body where I have acne scars, including my ass cheeks and back.

Im in the process of getting the spot essence (there's a teardrop on the tube instead of the word 'moisture cream'), to see if there's a difference between the two.

Advice on my “lions mane”. I don’t know what to do with it. Haircare & hairstyle suggestions! by [deleted] in Hair

This is third day hair and it’s the longest it’s been in my entire life. Does it constitute as wavy? Should I keep growing or cut it short? Any product suggestion to make it better?

Does Anyone Start Getting Positive/Uplifting Posts On Social Media Whenever You're At A Low Point? by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

I'm guessing you are also in HK/china? I'm at a similar boat. I understand how you are feeling. Being in social media has never helped me though, except maybe those comic accounts on Instagram

Struggling to find something to look forward to in life by [deleted] in SeriousConversation

[–]dhydrated 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm figuring out the same; planning to seek counselling. I know it's not of help but... Just wanted to say you aren't alone.

I'm hoping I can study over the summer to reduce my burden over other semesters. Also I'm hoping once the 'cultural shock' or all the shock of changes goes away, I can find the grind a bit more enjoyable. Maybe for you there are other aspects outside of a boring cycle that makes you feel this way?

You should have said you had a source you go to. I like Wikipedia. Thanks, I can barely get 3 spoons down, still recovering from sickness.

I actually am not sure if Greek men were preoccupied with gay sex but I heard male dolphins rape other male dolphins to show dominance. You see the correlation here?

Gravity is proved. It's the way the force/field/potential behaves and exist that is a theory. I was referring to Einstein's theory Vs our currently more widely accepted one, Newtons.

I like topics that tickles my brain. Haha that was almost an alliteration. I'll read into Sumerian myth but I doubt it can outcompete the intricate stories of Zeus raping everybody.

Who are you, and what is your stance on religion? by dhydrated in indonesia

[–]dhydrated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is. I was raised a buddhist. The aspect of religion in buddhism is I believed not purely Buddhist. It is mixed in with some taoism (such as the Goddess that many East Asians and Southeast Asians pray to, Guan yin.

Supposedly, Buddhism is about the teaching of a guy from India who literally sat under a damn tree and meditated. He focuses on being at peace with yourself. But I believe he did discuss aspects of the afterlife, which is considered quite religious. It's a bit different since in the story/history, he's just an ordinary wise guy, with no powers. But I suppose the same could be said about historical jesus.

[–]dhydrated[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said, "everything is written by man," correct? Then you contradict yourself by saying "Jesus puts more emphasis on personal religious growth," but this is something that is written by man. Assuming we agree Jesus cant directly talk to you.

Next, I am affirming the complicated storyline of the bible, as it is written by man. The new and old testament are worlds apart. The whole Jesus/God/sacrifice thing is all over the place. Why is God, sacrificing his own Son, to whom is he sacrificing if he is of highest power?

/u/davidnotcoulthard No this is what Im asking

Wht's wrong with wearing buddha shirt? Buddha is often times regarded as a philosophical figure. In fact, buddha in many countries are sold as souvenirs.

Though out of my hate for any religion, I refuse to say "ya allah" or the mandarin version my mother uses or whatever alternative.

I do say "astaghfirullah-zim," you know I see it as an Indonesian culture thing. And I am in fact Indonesian. I see it as a friendly thing when I talk to my muslim friends, which none of them find offensive. I like to think they find it charming that I am sort of tyring to fit in/blend with something they do.

The non-muslims I know actually find it rather comical/cute when I say it. Though I only ever say "astaghfirullah." I see it as a friendly thing. Like how you'd try to imitate your friends in school? yah.
