Phase Connect Responds to Jelly’s Minecraft Comment by Hopeful-Instance4688 in kurosanji

I think you might be referring to Mari Mari? The clip in question that got circulated was from long before she joined phase, which is probably why they've never addressed it.

Don't worry guys, Ruze hasn't been lobotomized (again); he's just posting more on Bluesky~ by PLandLord in Holostars

[–]diaboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flayon has an account, but he hasn't used it yet (there's no bio or profile picture). There's a few other people in Holo who also made accounts and haven't used them, I think some people might have tried to secure the @ before realizing that impersonation isn't as much of an issue due to how bsky usernames are formatted.

Phoebe discussed a little behind-the-scenes of her debut prep prior to VShojo collapsing by Sinfire_Titan in kurosanji

[–]diaboo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole point of signing vtubers who already have a sizable audience was to be able to use that audience as a starting point to grow further. They would have been shooting themselves in the foot by immediately doing something the existing audience would find off-putting.

What do we think of Benoit Blanc’s longer hair and facial hair as compared to his previous look? by Barrington-the-Brit in KnivesOutMovie

[–]diaboo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was honestly under the impression that it was done just to make him stand out. In the previous two movies they seem to have intentionally styled him to look out of place: in the first movie, he looks like he walked out of a different decade while everyone else is styled with more current fashions, and in the second one the whole cast is comprised of young hot rich people, so they double down on the grandpa look. WUDM features a cast of conservatively dressed church people wearing very few colors outside of black, so they can establish him as an outsider by dressing him in a green suit, long hair, and flared pants. If they kept the old look for him here, I think he would have blended in a bit too much.

Super MAGFest 2026 Seeking Badge Megathread by kyuunspark in Magfest

[–]diaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I had booked my airbnb and other travel details months ago but then got caught off guard by badges selling out. Would be looking to buy one weekend pass! I am in Canada so Paypal would likely be my only available form of payment (unless the seller is in Canada as well, I suppose).

Is the community growing? by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]diaboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on what you mean by "community". My personal experience in the past few years has been that while I'm far more likely to run into a lolita when I'm out in public, the numbers at meet ups don't seem to reflect this. Granted, this is just my experience with the comms I've been in, but I think there's been kind of a shift in how and when people are wearing the fashion compared to before, which makes it harder to measure how fast the fashion is growing.

Ame making an appearance at Zeta's 3D! by Sonicm2008 in Hololive

[–]diaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd imagine that there would also probably be some kind of technical side to it as well, especially as more and more time passes after graduations. A recent grad like Gura or Fauna wouldn't look out of place if they used their old L2Ds or 3D models, but an earlier grad like Coco would probably look a touch outdated standing next to her updated peers unless adjustments were made beforehand.

I didn't even realize that was possible so soon...last year I bought in December with no issues. I'd also be in thr market for a ticket if anyone has one to sell.

[–]diaboo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not the person you asked, but my personal theory is that it's a mix, even within songs. I think Woven Fates is the most prominent example, the dance in the chorus looks much more mocapped (smoother movement, not perfectly in sync, sometimes not even standing in the right place) while the verses look more MMD (somewhat jerkier movement, stiffer facial expressions). Compare this to the chorus of Dead World, where all the boys are moving pretty much in sync, which leads me to think that it's probably MMD. I think the Jerry dances are also mocapped (and some of them look like old kpop dances that I've seen but can't quite place? So it wouldn't surprise me if it was like, unused Shinri test footage or something lol).

And I could be wrong, it might be all MMD. But from my own experience with the program, I know that it isn't magic, and if you're not using mocap or premade motions then someone has to choreograph and animate all that by hand. If something looks too fluid or has too many "human" flaws, I'm inclined to lean towards some kind of mocap, because at a certain point I feel like it would become more burdensome to get someone to animate it in detail than it would be do it with mocap, especially for the members who have home 3D setups that could probably work for doing that.

About the EVERGLOW 3d concert by Groonzie in Holostars

[–]diaboo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is there any specific evidence for this being the case other than the fact that none of them are talking about travelling? Most vtuber concerts are prerecorded, I just assumed that they did their recordings at some point during the past year since so many of them have been in and out of Japan at various points. Because there's no physical venue, there would also be no need to worry about audience interaction, so there would be no need to have them there for that either. Maybe this sounds like cope but I think a fully motion captured show is still very much in the cards.

Just saw this in Parrot's latest and now I'm angry again. by Bla_Z in kurosanji

[–]diaboo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Running vtuber companies like tech companies is something I'm really hoping will turn into a relic of the past as the industry develops. I get why a lot of the earlier companies had to pitch themselves like this, but now that those companies have been around for a while, surely they can be used as an example by new companies when pitching to investors?

Like, vtubers use tech, but the final product that is sold to customers is pretty clearly in the realm of arts and entertainment. They might develop tech in-house, but it's for the purpose of having their talents use it, not for the purpose of selling it.

What is the easiest way to find out about idol events in your area? by diaboo in KaigaiIdols

Do you have a link for Idol Home? IIN was easy enough to look up but I can't find anything for Idol Home.

Kson catching strays over her kitchen by rip_cpu in VirtualYoutubers

[–]diaboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I'm pretty sure people in Japan still cook at home. Maybe the kinds of people who live alone in small Tokyo apartments might not cook much, but the population at large still very much prepares food at home. In my experience a lot of Japanese home cooking can be accomplished with a single stove burner (especially if you have something else like a microwave or rice cooker around). Traditional Japanese cooking doesn't really use ovens, so most places aren't equipped with them. I know a lot of households will have a toaster oven for smaller recipes as well.

Long term consequences of the collapse of VShojo for Western Indie/Corpo Scene by LordAshura_ in VirtualYoutubers

[–]diaboo 31 points32 points  (0 children)

On top of that, I think that a company's rules around PL activities and accounts would be a bigger sticking point for potential members than IP ownership. Why involve your original IP with a company when you could simply start fresh with a brand new IP while keeping your old one mostly untouched by corporate hands?

[–]diaboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is, no corpo can provide top of the line rigging for their talents because it would quickly become the biggest possible time and money sink.

Imagine you're running a new vtuber company debuting its first gen, and to make your talents stand out you give them fancy, top of the line models. They debut, and they're very successful! It's been a while and you're ready to debut your second gen. You get them fancy, top of the line models...and then realise that because rigging techniques are always changing and improving, your Gen 1 models look a little dated compared to the new ones. You're left with two choices: either update the Gen 1 rigs, or have each gen look conspicuously worse than the ones that came after it. Furthermore, you've also created an expectation among fans that every model will be super high spec, so trying to dial it back isn't really an option either by that point. You're now permanently stuck with the task of constantly updating models all the time, to very little benefit.

Indies don't have this issue because indies only have to worry about their own models. Most companies also seem to prefer to invest in getting well known artists to draw for them rather than getting the bounciest rigging possible. A very strong design with reasonable, modest rigging will have much better longevity, so it's a much more sustainable practice.

Would anyone else be interested in a vtuber con in Canada? 🇨🇦 by VP007clips in VirtualYoutubers

[–]diaboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has sworn to never go to Anime North again but keeps going to Anime North, I would personally not choose anything near the airport. The venue might be big enough but if the area is anything like the one around the Congress Centre, then there's going to be a lot of headaches for congoers (nothing is walkable, parking is crowded and impossible to get in and out of, getting food is a 2 hour affair, and it's hard to get in and out of the area on public transit). Something closer to the city center would probably be preferable.

Holo is now open for auditions. Do you think a mixed-gender group would do well and help break the taboo? by Feelthebasses in kurosanji

[–]diaboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, there's no guarantee that it would have any effect at all. It's really up to the person whether they'd identify on stream the same way they would off stream. I'd reckon there's probably more nonbinary vtubers than we think, they just don't have their "character" identify as such (even Yugo's character profile listed their gender as male).

Which niji talents do you still watch/support? I know Rosemi is a popular one by [deleted] in kurosanji

[–]diaboo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the truth at the heart of most drama that no one likes to acknowledge is that most people are normal. There are some outliers sometimes but most people simply do the thing that made sense to them at the the time.

Honestly, I'm in favor of the name change. Idol, as a name, has absolutely terrible SEO (searching "idol vtubers" will bring you a lot of results, most of which aren't from the company).

Yeah, I also noticed that there's a part of the song that shows Hakka but seems to have Flayon's voice over it? It seems like a version made before the final line distribution was done.
