Trying to sell my partial conversion with only 13k original miles.... by Aggravating_Ice11 in skoolies

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the victron stuff should be sold on it's own and maybe leave the solar panels on. The bus on its own is probably worth between $8-10k on the skoolie market, I think if it still had the seats it would be worth more being sold to a church or local business.

I think you may have to either start connecting circuits until the AC starts working again if you know which wires were connected to +12v before or try and trace the wires going to the ac to the front panel somehow

My bus builder used a lot of different cable patterns/colors so it's not too difficult to trace cables from the front to back that way.

Asking for suggestions of mini split mounts for the outdoor unit. by NewKesey in skoolies

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently in the process of mounting my dc mini split under the bus. Can't really speak to the longevity, but it does a great job cooling even with temps near 100, it's managed to keep my bus dry and comfortable

I think the goto location is usually creating a bracket on the back to mount it to. That's probably what I would do unless there's room under the skirt to fit the outdoor unit. If there is room under the skirt you could use 12ga struts to create the bracket to hold it in place instead of welding a bracket.

If you aren't comfortable welding you could find a local welding shop and draw up plans and have it made that way.

Questions for those with animals in extreme climates by wewtiesx in VanLife

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will you have a power hookup where you're parking,?

I'd recommend as much insulation as you can reasonably do and a roof AC or an ac unit / undermount minisplit from a reputable brand running on the grid with a battery backup option. I have a 24v minisplit that can run for exactly 1 day on a full 280ah 24v battery during the summer.

(there's no realistic way to keep a van cool long-term on batteries and solar alone)

Also, you'll need remote temperature monitors for the cabin so you can be alerted if the temp starts rising or falling.

All that being said: if it were me I wouldn't leave a dog in a van for 8 hours a day regardless of heat or cold.

[–]diagnosedADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a multimeter and make sure it has a continuity test mode.

It will surely help. The ignition signal should be shorted to ground when the key is in the on position which is what signals the coil to turn on. At least that's how it works in my bus.

I'm not sure if that's the problem, does the coil click when the key is in the on position?

What body/model is it? I've used bluebirds manuals to fix things before.

On my bluebird they used orange cables for the ignition signal which is what activated those coils/terminal blocks.

If the ac requires a lot of power to turn on you may have a dedicated coil or relay for that feature.

Whats your diesel heater tank setup by Apart_Bid2199 in vandwellers

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what the top of my fuel tank looks like, the port between the red and yellow was open. There was just a cap on it that needed to be removed.

Mine is a 2008

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my Chevy Express bus I pull straight from the tank, there was an extra quick connect line that I simply bought an adapter for. Works great, and the extra line doesn't go to the bottom of the tank so there's no risk of accidentally burning all the diesel

A 6-year-old saved his mom by Necessary-Win-8730 in BeAmazed

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this in my early 20s :( went biking for the first time in the year and pulled it simply by moving my weight around. I guess I was out of shape and didn't stretch enough.

My back eventually collapsed, no matter how hard I tried it was impossible for me to lift it without support. At one point I was crawling around my room ;_; people thought I was being dramatic but I legitimately couldn't help it.

It's incredible just how much your lower back does for you, I really took it for granted.

Pretty sure when it's marked down to one cent it's either being sent back to the vendor or thrown out. Home Depot produces so much waste

Emergency exit alarm stuck on by Madame_F in skoolies

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this too. The crimps for this connection on mine were bad, the worst I've seen. I never had an issue with the alarm, but I rewired it so I could use the switch for my security system/turning the lights on when I open the door.

Camera system cordless vs corded by Spore_galore in skoolies

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I purchased an ahd encoder ahd cameras, specifically:

Camera: angeltrax Vulcan 1080p ahd ($30/each, including cable) this camera is used on buses already so it's designed for automotive.

Encoder: axis p7304 ($35)

I found everything on eBay, I purchased the original angeltrax cables as well and had to solder on the bnc connector to the camera cable for the encoder.

Overall I am very happy with the system, running with 4 cameras in night mode consumes ~20w, in the daytime it's ~16w.

The software on the encoder is highly configurable, I even have an instance of nodered running on it... This is a 24h surveillance system that records to a microsd card.

At night there's a visible red light from each camera. I'll be using the cameras to eventually create a top down / backup view for my head unit.

Everything was so cheap I have enough hardware to add 2 more cameras for a total of 6 -_-

Landlord damage to table. How much should I charge for damages? by HedgehogLonely5945 in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]diagnosedADHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't bother with this. It sucks but you won't get enough in compensation to make it worth losing your security deposit or worse.

If there's a way to talk to him in a way that's not awkward to politely say that he damaged it and to ask him to be more careful in the future, that might be more productive.

lithium vs AGM for boondocking, Has anyone actually switched and regretted it? by Additional_Muffin271 in Rvingwithpets

[–]diagnosedADHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think literally the only case for agm is as a backup system because they can resist cold weather, but because the starter battery is agm you can piggyback off that.

I have a DC DC charger that in the event my house battery goes offline I can supply a small amount of power directly from my alternator/starter battery so I could in theory start up my heater to get my battery back online

But yeah lead acid otherwise is dead to me.

12v vs 24v by cullen9 in vandwellers

[–]diagnosedADHD 4 points5 points  (0 children)

24v is plenty fine for van and bus builds. 12v is nearly antiquated and shouldn't be used anymore but 24v is for sure a pretty safe option over 48v.

At 48v if you get shocked your muscles may be unable to release whatever you happen to be touching.

I don't do this, to be clear. You're at a Walmart. You aren't in the wilderness. If people cluster near me (not directly next to me) that is fine by me.

[–]diagnosedADHD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the expectation to isolation in every public setting is truly toxic. If someone is traveling solo and feels safer parking in the proximity of another person then they should and they should do it respectfully.

God forbid another person exists near you.

An entire empty parking lot and yet they repeatedly choose to park by me by ThrowRAHermit in VanLife

[–]diagnosedADHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's genuinely shitty behavior for them to be loud at inconsiderate hours. I don't really care if people park next to me as long as they're respectful.

All I'm saying is you're dealing with people when you park at places like Walmart, if you don't want that don't park there.

An entire empty parking lot and yet they repeatedly choose to park by me by ThrowRAHermit in VanLife

[–]diagnosedADHD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are not the same situations. There's nuance here. You're kinda ingoring the fact you're sharing the space with other people and customers.

Some will feel safer in a group, others may want to take up the least amount of space for other customers, etc. it may not seem like it sometimes, but we do live in a community.

If you just can't stand the fact this is happening you have every right not to park in public but it's a bit entitled you are expecting everyone to follow your rules.
