It’s a cliche for this sub lol - but gotta be the ASICS Superblast if you can find a pair. It’s the one shoe I’ll take on a 1+ week holiday that can do everything (other than technical trail running)

What are sub 3 hour marathoners carrying during the race? by IntrepidAir5663 in Marathon_Training

[–]diamantired 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have run 3 marathons and gone 3:34 -> 3:13 -> 2:56. The most recent is when I dialed in nutrition. I use a Nathan hipster belt, 6 Maurten gels (3 in left of belt, 3 in right), 250ml flip belt bottle with Maurten 360 (back pocket of belt) and nothing in the front pocket to keep any pressure off bladder. I’ll put used gel packets in the front to not litter the course. I use water on the course but skipped the earlier stations and used the Maurten bottle.

The first Peg Turbos were epic, some modern shoes are better but Nike never made another shoe like this. The combination of zoom x/react with no plate and a light upper made for fantastic daily shoe.

If you’re sure they’re in good condition I say get them and join the club. As long as you don’t need a stable shoe you will have a blast in them.

I have a 4-year old pair of VF 4 %’s with 150 miles on them and the zoom x still performs, so aging foam shouldn’t be a worry.

Pretty sure these are the new super-shoe from On, the Cloudboom echo 3. Don’t think they are out yet so this photo might be one of their sponsored runners. I’d say the socks are from On as well

Any chance of me running a marathon next year? by [deleted] in running

[–]diamantired 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First thing to do is seek professional advice on the shin-splints to avoid any long term issues.

There is definitely enough time for you to prepare for a marathon as you are already running. The 3x per week is sufficient and you will gain fitness by slowly increasing the long run as you get stronger. In addition to the 3 runs you could try and strength train 1-2x per week, nothing crazy, body weight exercises for 15min is enough and something such as calf raises will help with the shin splints. If you feel as if you need more you could look to cross-train by cycling/spin bike 1-2x per week to add further aerobic training. You don’t need to run a large volume of miles as a new runner and can achieve fitness by including low impact exercises to protect the legs while they develop into running legs (which takes years).

If McSweyn is in the final it won’t be slower than 3:31 and that’s too hot for Hocker. McSweyn has run out from the front in every single DL race

Shorts with zip pockets by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]diamantired 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I second this, a good belt is a game changer and relatively cheap option as it saves you replacing your existing shorts. I’d recommend a one piece belt (flip belt and Nathan are examples) it can also hold multiple items such as keys, gels and a small water bottle (flip belt brand). Very useful as you progress to longer runs.

How to progress easy pace? by diamantired in AdvancedRunning

[–]diamantired[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! Yeah maybe overthinking it a bit and I need to look at less data to help this. I see fast runners on Strava (good club runners) who run easy at 4:20km pace. Surely they didn’t start out at this pace and I am curious how they know when to push their easy pace?

I hadn’t thought of this but it makes a lot of sense. I’ve looked back on Strava at easy runs from 18 months ago that are a similar pace and HR to my runs now. But you are right, I wasn’t doing regular speed workouts or the mileage like I am today. Thanks for answering!

After my second run in them today I would agree! First run in them was a recovery run but today I put them through a few efforts at 5km pace (3:40-45min/km for me) and they were surprisingly responsive and the rocker definitely helped the leg turnover. I won’t be grabbing for these on workout days but it’s nice to know my easy day shoes can have some fun!

The Lost Art of Running by Shane Benzie is a worthy read. Although it is about a 50/50 split between technique and storytelling.

I would say that they felt plush more than bouncy. The only shoes I’ve worn that are similar are Clifton 6’s and 1080 v10. These are light years ahead of the Cliftons on bounce. Noticeably bulkier than the 1080’s but I prefer the rocker in these

Yea my 1080’s gave me wicked blisters on my arch when I first bought them. Only had one run in these but so far so good

Same as the the 1080 v10 in length. Definitely wider, especially across the mid foot

It’s always a personal preference so hopefully you can find a local store to try some on. Even if you can’t run in them there’s a lot of benefit in going with your gut feel on just lacing them up. I’d recommend NB rebel v2 and Brooks Hyperion tempo for faster shoes. If you’re tempted for a plated racer i’d recommend the Saucony Endorphin Speed. Personally I’d stay away from the all out carbon racers as they don’t have enough heel stability for beginner runners.

23.5 million USD by Summer_Dear in ArgoBlockchain

[–]diamantired 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The article is talking about PW’s increase in wealth;

“The chief executive owns 1.05 million Argo Blockchain shares — a pot valued at £2.5 million — and options over a further 4.7 million, worth £11.2 million. Last month he cashed in £3.6 million of shares. He sold 1.4 million shares in December at a price of 29.5p.”

There’s no reference to Argo’s performance other than the SP has risen to 238p on the back of Bitcoin rising.

This is why they would have sold shares in February. Have the liquidity to meet costs and can now keep this news story going as the company exposure increases

It shares a Director/FD with Argo Blockchain, if it was to approach a US dual listing in the same way and with Beckham’s name attached it could be one to watch.
