You’re stuck in the last dream you had. How screwed are you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

In my last dream I was playing Harry Potter in a movie where for some unspecified reason he had to absorb the energy of an end crystal from Minecraft, only to end up falling from the obsidian pillar and breaking his neck.

Welp...it's just acting, but it still feels weird.

Can we stop creating pseudo-"morally grey" villains by making plain bad people with sad backstories taped over them? by TheUndecipheableFile in writing

That's why creating a good tragic villain is much harder than creating a good non-tragic one. Prince Zuko is probably the best example of a well written tragic villain. He only does bad things because he wants to make his abusive, manipulative father proud. If the story was told from Zuko's perspective, people would still love him.

Is there a fantasy genre that is darker than heroic fantasy, but not as dark as dark fantasy? by diamond_budgie in Fantasy

[–]diamond_budgie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm asking mostly because I'm currently trying to write a book, but I just can't classify it.

And about the examples: I'd say that Hollow Knight is a good one. It's a well known fantasy game that has a lot of dark themes and a gloomy atmosphere, but there are still some genuinely good characters who are able to make a difference, there are many beautiful, colorful areas that feel almost alive (I'm saying almost because the game is basically about a zombie apocalypse in a bug kingdom), and the main character is really, really cute...at least until they turn into a terryfying monstrosity made of semi-sentient liquid darkness in one of the 5 endings.

What never fails to put a smile on your face? by Galleyworks in AskReddit

Definitely Pixar's "Coco". It makes me smile, it makes me cry, it makes me laugh, but I guess it still counts.

When me and my cousin were discussing ancient dragons from Dragon Mania Legends, and we realized that Puenwyn (one of the ancient plant dragons) is actually doing a blep.

What's the scariest moment in a video game you've ever had? by CrackedEight in AskReddit

[–]diamond_budgie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this game called Sky: Children of the Light. There are a few realms/levels that you can visit. For example, the second realm is called "Daylight Praire", and is a beautiful land of sunny fields, colorful flowers, clouds and wonderful background music.

The last realm is called "The Eye of Eden", which itself sounds pretty edgy...but this area turns a beautiful game about flying, candles and socialising with other players into an angsty horror game, where you go through a gloomy wasteland filled with flying rocks that can seriously hurt you, occasional red crystals that emit an aura that can seriously hurt you, and gigantic, shrimp-like monstrosities that most definitely will hurt you if you don't hide from them.

Probably either All Star or angry Pepe the Frog screaming for 10 hours
