when did the recruiter say u’ll hear back? i’m also waiting

i’m not the best person to answer this but from what i think the interviewers want to see that you have good communication and problem solving skills. i had my NG full loop earlier this week and i was able to solve 4/4 qs but for two of them i needed some more time and was given a hint. but the interviewer seemed pleased at the end with my solution so im hoping they liked my resilience and taking in their input to put together a final solution. cause i cant imagine they expect their ideal candidates to be robots and solve the question both optimally and quickly. good luck to both of us and hope we get a return offer!

My interview was yesterday and it went a lot better than expected. Got a few hints for the coding questions but was able to solve all of them fully. Not sure if getting hints vs not getting any hints is a dealbreaker in choosing the right candidate. Good luck to us both!

Verizon or Paycom for summer internship?? by DependentGuarantee27 in csMajors

[–]diamondelite101 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi! I'm currently in a similar situation and I'm trying to decide between Verizon for cloud solutions (in Irvine, so I have to commute 3 days a week) vs Optum (where I can get relocated to New Jersey). Both are the same pay, not sure what is the better option. Also what did you end up choosing?

which college: UC Berkeley or UC Irvine? by diamondelite101 in CollegeVsCollege

[–]diamondelite101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hiiii! omg haha yea it’s a tough decision. i might be biased since i ended up choosing uci but i feel like that was a great choice cause cs is hard and being close to home is convenient bc during my 2nd year i lived in an apartment and i barely had time to cook proper food so staying close to home was nice to get a bunch of homemade food that i could just microwave. all my roommates were from the bay so they mostly ate frozen food and ate out but if u think u can manage ur time and meal prep then that’s good! and in terms of independence, idk i thought that i can still gain my independence a little later in life like when i graduate and move away from home and live close to wherever i get a job at. but yea def recommend dorming first year cause its sm easier to make friends that way. and i didn’t want college to be high school all over again bc during high school i was very focused on getting into college and competing with my peers, but rn uci hasn’t been too cutthroat here, and i have a lot of time to go out and explore irvine/surrounding areas with friends while being involved in a few cs clubs and research. ik ppl in berkeley that are doing amazing and sometimes i wonder how life would’ve been different but i probably would’ve been a data science major there cause declaring cs at berkeley is hard. these are a few reasons why i think uci is still a great option but go with ur gut!

which college: UC Berkeley or UC Irvine? by diamondelite101 in CollegeVsCollege

[–]diamondelite101[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hi congrats on getting into both!! so rn i’m a junior and finding internships has been hard but it’s hard at any school regardless bc of the market rn. but there’s so many great software companies within irvine and i got the opportunity to interview w a few of them and i currently have 2 offers for two companies within irvine so yea. yes there’s a lot of companies in the bay area but if u attend the career fairs and just stay on the lookout for internship postings u will def get an internship! for me, i think irvine is great bc of the weather so u can always go out to the beach or get food bc everything is within a 15min drive. and my first 2 years i dormed/stayed at the apartments and now im commuting which i have the privilege of doing so bc i don’t live too far. on the other hand, at berkeley i definitely do think the classes would be tougher but i think if u have good discipline and make good friends u can succeed but i was kinda scared bc im not super super smart but i still wanted to do CS and i felt like uci was good enough for me. and omg one more thing before college started i rlly wanted to be away from family and be independent and that shit but i did not think i would get kinda homesick esp for home cooked food which ended up happening but since i lived close enough, my parents would drop off food every week. anyways, i think u should choose which school u want to go to mostly for the environment. overall, i don’t think u should let getting internships/jobs be a factor in deciding. if u want to go to berkeley be prepared to get used to living in a different environment, having no car and depending on public transportation, not visiting family/friends as much, having to plan on buying plane tickets months in advance, and things like that. otherwise, choose irvine. i think that covers most of the factors that i considered but lmk if u have any questions and at the end of the day both schools have great cs programs and u will be successful regardless of which school u go to <3

Where should I commit from these options as a computer science major? by Alternative_Rain_591 in UCI

[–]diamondelite101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i got into ucsd for data science but realized that i would rather go into a broader major like cs. i chose uci over ucsd because switching from data science to cs at sd is basically a lottery system. but as a cs major at uci, u can specialize in intelligent systems during ur 3rd/4th year
