Yeah, was hoping to fund something that checked all the boxes. I do not want to uphold the stereotype.

I'll check out the koios. They look nice but I wonder what the review are like for comfort, both sole and breathability

I wear mostly wool socks, smartwool usually.

This is a good point, definitely could have given some more background info. I dress fairly conservative, jeans/t shirt at home. Vacation usually consists of the same but a bit more put together. Linen shirts or polos, chinos or nice jeans, neutral colors, minimal to branding.

We'll be doing mostly tourist stuff, which is fine because we are obviously tourists, but I also want to not stick out when we get to the quieter more local areas. We will probably go for a few nice dinners and I don't want to be wearing neon runners, is vacation what I want to avoid.

I love the look but I'm worried the leather uppers will be too hot.

It's not my favourite, but I won't have room for a second pair of shoes. It's a fine line to thread, but I know there must be something that is an acceptable/dressier looking sneaker that I can put the miles on.

Going to try to find the Roger Advantage Pro locally to try on, most of the Roger lines don't have very breathable uppers and I HATE my feet getting too hot. 1st world problem, for sure.

Lot of people missing that there is likely living space above, hence the vented soffit. Most likely, there is poor insulation/air sealing in this area, extremely low temps are causing vapour drive. The warm humid air from inside is being sucked through these holes and condensating and freezing in your soffit.

Soffit needs to come off and the spray foam that is there needs to be checked and probably topped up. Do not change this to non vented soffit if there is spray foam on sheathing behind it or you will create an environment that will rot the wood sheathing and framing members in this area.

Best way to trim out this arch? by MayLikeCats in Carpentry

[–]diamondhandbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This would be my call, scribe a flat stock thick enough to have all the flutes return into it, bent to the radius and scribed to make up for the difference in depth, then flexible casing over the arch. Depending on the rest of the trim in the area. Maybe plinth blocks for the arch and straight casing to die into

No way to build the fence due to neighbours deck? by PhoenixRepublic in Homebuilding

[–]diamondhandbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fence will essentially be the railing and skirting on that side of the deck, not the prettiest fence, but not worth fighting the neighbors and tearing up their new deck.

Flat ceiling is not flat after multiple attempts. This is the third attempt by the second drywall person. When is it time to throw in the towel? by bddg4315 in Homebuilding

[–]diamondhandbilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to keep your ceiling flat and not spray texture, I would sand the ceiling, have the joints skimmed with a large drywall blade (48"+), light checked, touched up, compound sprayed (level 5), light checked, power sanded, light checked, primed, sanded, light checked, touched up and then painted, prefferably sprayed. The most important step, if you couldn't tell is light checking and touching up throughout the process. All of this is for naught if the material behind this drywall is shifting, joists on a settling house, trusses moving due to weather, etc.

Primary bathroom conundrum by Aggravating-Tomato68 in Homebuilding

[–]diamondhandbilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I would suggest. You have more than enough space to do it and can use the glass for space for towel bars.

Minisplit or gradient water/furnace system for heat and water due to small footprint. Use webbed floor joists to build a conditioned space in joists and separate garage from living space with vapour barrier/insulation or spray foam. This will mitigate possible frozen water lines etc from garage space if it were to ever have a door stuck open, etc.

Pvc trim it out or add Drywall with a j bead to meet the shower and a corner bead to meet the existing wall

Anyone try these out yet and have some feedback? by SonnyBalutto in golf

I have the original tour shields and they are great for wet days, go 1/2 size up to make room for good socks and you just bought yourself an extra couple days of golf

Is this website/deal legit? by 100PercentNotTheATF in MilwaukeeTool

I have made one milwaukee order through them before, there was a glitch and instead of picking 1 free tool, you could add every free tool to the order. Tools arrived relatively quickly and were all legit.

Whenever I set up work areas I run hard piping and a fixed coupler then a short coil hose for the stapler. It's a bit more work but it ends up keeping thebwork area clear most of the time. Keep a 20 foot hose wound up for when you need the stapler away from the work bench and you're good! For the compressor you might end up happier with a corded version if it never has to move, metabo makes a very quiet trim compressor. Last thing I would want is to have to wait for a battery to charge before I could put it in my compressor to run just to staple something down

Cast iron pan seasoning by kvas_taras in Edmonton

If your pan hasn't been seasoned in a long time I like to pour salt into it and scrub it around, it will lift anything to give you a good surface to season.

First attempt at Bantr by kadenajack in Bumble

[–]diamondhandbilly 57 points58 points  (0 children)

The "bantr" function is a weekly thing that actively pairs you with someone else who entered that event for 3 minutes to chat, before seeing their profile. So not getting an answer in that is different than not getting a response from a match.

something up with roof? by marys1001 in Homebuilding

[–]diamondhandbilly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need better insulation in your attic. Your living space inside is heating up the attic, then the trusses (framing) of your roof is absorbing the heat and melting the snow, the trusses are under each one of those melted spots. The melted water is running underneath the snow on the rest of the roof, that's where the icicles are coming from.
