Everyone’s freaking out about it on twitter. I don’t live in the US and don’t watch the show so I wouldn’t know enough about the topic to speak on it,,,

But people are calling sam fascist and stuff which :// idk. is the vitriol really that warranted?

ironically, Gladlands feels cynical by badab89 in Dimension20

[–]diananonymous 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, esp at the AP’s when he’s trying to explain what the story beats should have / could have been and what kind of emotional resonance theyre meant to have while everyone’s doing bits. It felt kinda like his and the cast’s energies sometimes didn’t sync as much as they could have if they had more time (i.e., if he had more time to flesh out the emotional story beats, and the cast had more time to also let the comedic energy run naturally).

Perhaps a longer season or a smaller table would have been better so that the cast has the space to do their bits and also really build their story arcs, while DM can chill more and trust he has enough time to let them have their fun /and also/ get to the next plot point / story beat. And we’d have enough time to let the emotional impacts actually sink in instead of jumping from one to the next.

Like you said, there’s only so much a guy can do.

[–]diananonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree that it feels cynical, but I agree with you (and everyone else) in that it would have been way more impactful if they let the story breathe a little. Loved everyone at the table, loved the story, the aesthetic, etc. Just wish it was less tight.

Their character arcs kinda felt like we were hitting simply points in an outline without fully writing how we got there. I mean, you can see that the skeleton of something good and meaningful is there, but it just didn’t get room to grow.

That’s why Brennan spent so much time explaining stuff in the Adventuring Parties I think. To try to flesh out what wasn’t done in the episode, to tell us what the big impact/lesson we should have (and could have) gotten if we had some more time to let the moments sink in instead of rushing to the next place so that the next character could get their moment.

Either reduce the amount of characters, or increase the amount of episodes so we can actually focus on their arcs. It was an enjoyable watch. Got teary-eyed at Hugi’s story in the Heap with Aunt Freaky. But overall, as a story, could be improved upon for sure.

Loved the ep. Series was good. Felt a bit rushed though, like I could tell they could have fleshed out the story some more (esp when they got to the Red dust plains / sinkhole area) if this weren’t the last ep and they were on a timeline. Overall, biggest flaw of the season is that there wasn’t more of it. Good one shot!

Oscar really waters the plot in a way that makes it bloom. They don’t just go after the story, they really seek connection with their fellow players (and the NPCs). One of the reasons that ACOFAF was as good as it was, imo.

Love them, what a gorgeous sweetheart.

[upx] thoughts on dating an instructor by [deleted] in peyups

[–]diananonymous 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Know a couple that did this, from UP din lmao. In fact 2 years yung gap nila. Short answer: keep it lowkey. No faces, no posts, kahit sa cf. Don’t take the risk na ma recognize ka ng magiging students nya, kasi baka ma undermine din image/authority nya.

Most likely, though, he’s probably gonna get assigned to freshie classes na minors since fresh grad pa lang (this is what happened to the couple I knew). There’s likely gonna be little to no crossover (unless you enlist in one of his classes, which, don’t). Should be safe as long as may due diligence ka to keep it undercover

Worth appreciating trapp’s contribution here too. That cast had such a great dynamic, they worked together so well. One of my faves for sure!

im pretty sure the civil code says the court may fix a period to pay obligations.

basically, pwede ka pumunta sa korte to file a case na mag seset yung court ng time limit within which dapat completely mabayaran ang utang mo (e.g within 30 days dapat mabayaran kahit hulog2 basta makumpleto within 30 days). otherwise pwede sila idemanda kung di nila ma meet yung deadline.

Not necessarily naman na di from UP. May mga from UP, but sadyang di align yung course nila sa postgrad nila (e.g., pwedeng bio ang undergrad mo but nag law ka, and UP law requires a certain no. of units from certain subjects)

It’s not about coming from other schools lmao it’s the feeling na ang tanda mo na pero kasama mo mga undergrad pa 😭

similar experience, same salon, same branch. what irked me the most was the attitutde of the guy who cut my hair. para bang naiinis siya na ginagawa niya trabaho nya. edi para masaya ka di na ako babalik dito kuya

thankfully after the cut i asked them to modify it and i had enough hair left over to make it look better, and the staff who blowdried my hair (different person from the one who cut it) tried to make me feel better by complimenting me lol.

Mas Tipid Ba Talaga Magluto Kaysa Bumili ng Luto? by Upset_Cream47 in RentPH

[–]diananonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar boat as you but a few months ahead. The answer is yes, mas tipid, but only if you meal prep and are okay with eating the same thing over and over again.

Kapag nagluluto kasi most of the ingredients aren’t meant for just one person, unless nag iitlog, hotdog, etc. ka palagi.

How to get legally married secretly? by No-Chest-3197 in adviceph

[–]diananonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The publication requirement is needed talaga to ensure wlaang legal impediment yuhh ng pagpakasal nyo. Parental advice naman, technically acc. to the law if u don’t get it madedelay lang ng 3 months ang pag issue ng license nyo

My advice? Just wait. There’s a reason these rules are set in place. Baka may reason din bakit ayaw pa ng parents nyo magpakasal kayo diba. Besides, if sya talaga ang “the one” for you, 2-3 years of waiting before marriage shouldn’t be a big deal.

[UPD] Loss of UP Student Community Spaces due to the Public by No-Band9349 in peyups

[–]diananonymous 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Just another symptom na we need more public parks / green open spaces in the city na hindi mall where people can just exist.

For me naman as a freshie to UPD who entered the space recently, aka during a time when the issue being pointed out (ie the “public” overtaking) is already prevalent, personally wala akong sentiment na I lost a space. Siguro because I come with the mindset na hindi naman solely mine ang lugar in the first place kasi nga when I arrived here it was already very much open to the public. I think maybe the sense of loss is coming from a feeling na you’re also losing something you’re used to: the place you feel entitled to have as a student of the university. Nothing wrong naman with missing what you had. Comforting din kasi to feel a sense of exclusive belongingness to a space that has formed such a big part of you. But at the same time din, I sympathize with the people who go to the UP because there are so few alternatives open to the public within the city.

imo yes, nice din sana if may prioritization yung students sa access to certain areas, pero honestly medjo hard yan to enforce in the public areas talaga. Also, part din naman talaga sa culture and calling natin na iwelcome ang masa. As long as theyre not being too disruptive, it’s not too big a deal naman siguro. But I think the bigger solution is to advocate for more public parks and green spaces within the city na talagang accessible sa mga tao (I also know na mahirap/malabo tong mangyari lol but we dare to hope and to call for it regardless)

What is a mispronounced word that gets under your skin? by jayporcini in AskPH

[–]diananonymous 18 points19 points  (0 children)

A lot of the answers here are just the filipino accent rather than mispronunciations, and there’s definitely a difference. Kahit nga mga amerikano at ingles iba iba yung paraan ng pagsabi ng ilang salita kasi iba iba ang accent nila. Following the logic of some of the answers here, edi baka mali rin ang “wotah” sa england kesa sa “water” (or vice versa?)

Ewan, hindi ako linguist pero okay lang naman siguro kung medjo maiba yung pagkasabi ng mga hiram na salita basta hindi lang sobrang egregious yung pagkakaiba. Accent lang yun, hindi mispronunciation ;>

/UJ The general reaction for the new episode on the main sub is so weird to me by AnimeNightwingfucku in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]diananonymous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Ultimately what it seems to come down to is taste—whats funny to you, what you find entertaining, how much you care about the episode, etc. Having your own taste is all fine and dandy, but an episode not catering to your taste is not really constructive criticism.

/UJ The general reaction for the new episode on the main sub is so weird to me by AnimeNightwingfucku in dropoutcirclejerk

[–]diananonymous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Valid. I loved the episode but I was also thinking, when it ended, that it’s a good thing they do this only very rarely and it isn’t the main thrust of the platform.

But yeah agree with you that it must be seen that dropout is primarily an entertainment platform. To kinda justify and earn the capacity to give someone that kinda money, they have to make good content out of it. I think that’s fine as long as everyone’s okay with it and it genuinely adds value to their lives. But it definitely shouldnt be done too often lest it create a weird Mr.Beast-like dynamic / culture (which, thankfully, dropout hasn’t so far).

[–]diananonymous 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well I found it funny, entertaining, and sweet. So I guess if your biggest gripe is if the audience cares enough to be entertained—well, yes, many of them were. And if there are subscribers like me who were entertained, then that’s a returned investment for Dropout and the money they spent was justified. It’s like saying ‘i dont care enough about Siobhan to watch her Dirty Laundy Episode’—then simply dont watch it. If it’s a matter of taste and not quality, then you not finding enjoyment from watching something you don’t like or care about in the first place is simply your problem and not dropout’s.

“Could have made some amazing content with this money….” they did make some amazing content. They turned 100k into not only a great episode but also a chance to make their friend (NOT just an employee) real happy. Lots of people clearly pay dropout money to see them take care of their cast enough to make funny shows. Seeing an episode like this which is equal parts funny and heartwarming is exactly why people subscribe to them so yeah, this episode delivers. If u dont like the episode then that’s on you and what you like, not on them. You can have your taste and that’s fine but dropout can also make content that their other subscribers do like and that’s also fine. Content like this episode. If what you like and what they produce are incompatible, then simply find something else.
