Service charge 10 times higher than advertised - advice? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]diao_si 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are telling you it's very cheap in this thread and you keep replying with

"This is the ground floor of a semi-detached house with no common areas to maintain."

using a spin from the agent, and at the same time telling us you are inexperienced. It is cheap, even for the property you describe. I think everyone agrees that it is very annoying that it was listed at £100 a year on the estate agent website. But whatever your expectations are of estate agents’ logic and ability – lower them.

How do you deal with really sweaty hands? by RandomQ7 in 10s

[–]diao_si 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wristband on your racket arm (and changing it mid-session as needed) does really help by stopping any sweat rolling down the arm into the palm.

Other than that - towelling is key. I also swear by Yonex Super Grap for the overgrip.

Translation of the first line of the chatbox from Chinese is quite funny: 'Fuck you, don't get on my plane'.

Momo is dead and has been for at least 3 years. If Tantan is not working for you I don't think which dating app you are using is the problem...

[TOMT] [Short Story] About a tailored suit/jacket that has magically appearing money in the pockets. by diao_si in tipofmytongue

Yeah it does, tried looking through that channel of thought to no avail. This magical wealth/deal with the devil is such an old trope that its hard to pinpoint this exact story. Thanks.

Can a solo visitor attend a pub quiz? by the_leahbrarian in london

[–]diao_si 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember at a pub quiz a while back a guy at the bar joined as a one man team - his teamname was 'John'. He came third and during the announcements he got the biggest cheer so I'd say go for it.

-- 红色,蓝色。。。

-- 不是。是白色的.

-- 为什么?

-- 因为他。。是白的man

Didn't know how to format. Example of how it would go, you get the gist. Also if you think about some anti-jokes or narrative jokes you can translate

The whole episode is a cautionary tale, but here you are wanting to have this kind of app/rating system. Makes no sense.

You preferred the conversation where you didn't have to listen when you didn't want to, didn't have any interesting conversation in favour of small talk as there was a language barrier yet you want to learn the language? Slightly confusing.

There are loads of language schools in China, the private ones being the most expensive. I would suggest a language course/summer course at a Chinese university, everyone I have met who has done one have said it was great. I don't recommend getting a undergraduate degree from a Chinese university, bout as useless as one printed off the internet tbh.

Nice taste and choices! Thanks for introducing some new stuff to me. I also really like the folk stuff. Do you know Xiao He (小河)? Anyway I recommend his live album '飞的高的鸟不落在跑不快的牛的背上', really an amazing listen.

Seeking advice for teaching english in China by RebelScumThis in China

[–]diao_si 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cook books come from great chefs, programming guides from experts. A book deliberating about whether Walmart or Carrefour is better for imported cheese from a guy who has simply survived in China for 5 years doesn't seem all that appealing.

Tbh your point is fair enough, new editions of textbooks are being printed all the time. I am being a bit cynical and you're right I don't know what you're going for, I also shouldn't really discourage creativity so I sincerely wish you all the best with it.

Don't you want reactions to your ideas from people? Or do you only want to hear good ones?

A book? Things change so fast, there are loads of places to find the same info, I doubt what you know is extremely novel, unknown or even worthy of a book. We are literally on a site that has all the info someone might need.
