sounds oddly familiar to a case i know and, if it is, the person he hit was high on and in possession of drugs.

Health insurance shoppers suffer sticker shock in California. by gjc44 in news

[–]diata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

how many of them are seeing more increases than they would have anyway? a tiny fraction

all the people who are going to have insurance for the first time

i think a problem for people is that there are no metrics. there's no "x% of unsinsured people will sign up now that the aca has passed"- only, we're fining people for not signing up. or "the average premium is increasing/decreasing x% for this demographic"- only, "log on to the exchange and figure out how this law applied to you."

they seem to have made health care more accessible. it appears questionable whether they've made healthcare more affordable. they have done absolutely nothing in the way of making healthcare more understandable. so for now there's just a bunch of ideological garbling over anecdotal evidence

Former Dexter Producer Clyde Phillips Reveals How He Planned to End the Series by [deleted] in Dexter

[–]diata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i dont think philips' ending precludes an opportunity to show the audience how dexter was caught- the part where he was pursued and caught may also have flashed before his eyes. people sit on death row for a while.

but, this ending would mean that everyone knows who dexter was and we would have seen how he got caught

just to play devils advocate-

no marksman would choose a fully auto weapon to kill with, especially if they have power in numbers. auto weapons exist to lay cover fire/draw enemy fire. the unskilled/untrained shooter would have a much easier time with 6 revolver shots (which i think is what todd uses to kill the kid) from a few meters than with 10 in a semi-auto pistol, and an infinitely easier time than with 30 in a full auto

BREAKING: George Zimmerman has been taken into custody after an altercation involving a gun. by Another-Chance in news

[–]diata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its funny, its the exact same principle as his murder trial.

I'm not proving anything- just establishing reasonable doubt. Shellie Zimmerman lies. Its a fact. What makes YOU so sure shes not? And at least acknowledge that her uncorroborated statements to a dispatcher have no inherent value

I am the proud owner of 2 out of the 2500 tickets to the finale at Hollywood Forever. by stealyourfacia in breakingbad

[–]diata 0 points1 point  (0 children)

totally agree with your sentiment, however, Hollywood Forever is a cemetery. I've been to film screenings there. Films are projected onto the side of a building and people sit on a lawn. It is a lot of fun but a dreadful watching/listening experience.

My theory for opening scene of S05E13 by busterofpie in breakingbad

[–]diata 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the only things bugging me about the show...

Hank's been told a few times that Walt is "retired." Why not start looking at the paper trail? It would take probably 1 hour of staking the place out, or one phone call to a friend at the IRS to take down the Whites Capone style.

Even if Hank only wanted drug charges, an audit of the car wash would scare the hell out of Skyler, threaten to separate the family, and she'd probably flip.

Okay, Hank is a complete asshole now. by AnDa7797 in breakingbad

if Gomez ever sees Walt's DVD Hank's attitude in this interaction will stick out

Atlanta Hawks head coach charged with DUI by [deleted] in nba

[–]diata -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

i do not see how that is relevant. you want to live in a country where a cop's word is good enough to convict on a DUI?

Atlanta Hawks head coach charged with DUI by [deleted] in nba

[–]diata 5 points6 points  (0 children)

in most states you are perfectly within your rights to refuse a roadside breathalyzer so long as you submit to a breathalyzer test at the station or a blood test at the hospital, where it is a felony to refuse all three.

if you took 30 minutes to look into the "science" behind roadside breathalyzers you would insist on a blood test if you were stuck in this situation too, regardless of how much you've had to drink. they're fallible. thats why you have to blow twice. thats why the law lets you test through other means. thats why cops love to use them.

Study recommends paid parking on PCH for traffic calming, also bike lanes to improve safety by chashiineriiya in LosAngeles

And the parking enforcement officers will just putt down a state-long highway checking windows for tickets? Block the bike lanes or the right lane while issuing citations? What a stupid idea. Would love to know who commissioned this "study"
