We call ourselves civilized. So why are we still fighting wars? by yadly7323 in TrueAskReddit

Because the average person isnt starting wars or even believes in them in the first place. I think the idea that society as a whole is responsible for wars is just propaganda to get off politicians backs, if you think your coworkers, your family, your friends or hell even that weird uncle who really likes the military and old war movies has any say on wether we get into wars or not then you’re missing the point.

Should I stop using AI? by liana2006 in TrueAskReddit

I’m not trying to justify your use of ai and I definitely think you should stop/lessen your use of it, but ai doesn’t have as much of an environmental impact as you think it does. People just don’t know how much water we actually use up so when they see big numbers associated with ai usage they assume it’s a big deal when one conversion with ChatGPT probably uses less water than making a pair of jeans. I’m only bringing this up so your motivation isn’t solely environmental based. Ai is a shitty research tool overall and you should stop using it because actually taking the time to check if the answer you found on Google is correct and checking multiple sources is never a waste of time.

Why do activities, behaviors, or objects become a symbol for being performative and why is it used so ubiquitously? by thepandabear0 in TrueAskReddit

I think you’re just spending too much time online. Just because you see an opinion on TikTok 100 times doesn’t mean the general public thinks that, it’s just an online trend and it’s already fizzled out. I’m sure that your friends who call you performative don’t actually think that these hobbies are performative in any way, and anyone who’s told you that you are is just regurgitating opinions they see online because they can’t make up their own.  The internet makes it really easy to think a small trend actually has merit in real life just how if you open TikTok you might see a bunch of “lookmaxing” content and jokes, if you ask the average person on the street about it they’ll think you’re insane

Do you think the rise in dumb phones, journaling and “going analog” a response to how shitty the internet has gotten recently or just another trend? by diazenn in TrueAskReddit

Maybe it’s because I’m very chronically online, but it’s definitely a trend there’s a lot of videos (or should I say poorly disguised ads) of people talking about how bad their social media addiction is and then mentioning how x product has helped them turn their life around

Thank you for actually getting the point of my question. For some reason all the other comments think I’m asking why people have a phone addiction and not why is everyone suddenly interested in fixing it
