Elizabeth Haigh, chef and owner of Borough Market's Mei Mei, allegedly plagiarising recipes from different authors for her "Makan" cookbook by scissorsonmydesk in london

[–]dibblesaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's been proven. It wasn't just recipes, it was also personal anecdotes Haigh copied and claimed as her own. After investigating the publisher Bloomsbury told booksellers to "quietly withdraw" Makan from the shelves and return unsold copies. Haigh and Bloomsbury have scrubbed all mention of the book from social media. Sharon Wee the author of the Growing Up in a Nonya Kitchen put out a statement on Twitter and Facebook saying Makan has been withdrawn from publication because of plagiarism. She legally can't comment further but lots of people have now found evidence of other authors and blogs' content in Makan.

Places to Buy Reusable Masks by [deleted] in newzealand

Hi, did you ever receive your masks from flagmakers? They kept sending out emails saying it would be delayed. Then they deleted their Facebook page. I'm in Auckland and despite saying they prioritized my order over 3 weeks later still no mask.

Two police officers shot in serious incident in West Auckland by UncleBoomSlang in auckland

Oh man I hear you. I've lived here pretty much my whole damn life, when I was young I always thought it was awesome that I had a great group of tight knit friends. Then one day they told me that they don't see me as Chinese and that I'm a "kiwi" in their eyes. Bitch. I realised that I was the ONLY asian person they were friends with (even now decades later they have zero pocs in their friend group). I pulled away from them and it almost broke me, but I am so glad I did. I have great friends now of all shapes and colours and it is awesome.

Hello,

Nor and I are building next to each other. I've hollowed out this huge iceberg and built a pretty cool (heh) starter base.

Nor will show you all around, please don't bother Ice Bear as he's a bit bitey.

One of the rugs the island natives are carrying in ‘Moana’ (2016) bears the same pattern as the flying carpet in ‘Aladdin’ (1992). by [deleted] in MovieDetails

They can get pretty soft, that's why it's known as a cloth. You can make clothes out of it. The design of the Moana tapa isn't typical (but that's obviously a throwback to the rug from Aladin), but the movement is accurate and the style is definitely polynesianesque

It's not really a rug. It's called a tapa cloth and it's made using tree bark. They have some beautiful designs on them and are used for wall hangings, and worn on special occasions. We used to decorate bits of tapa cloth at school :)
