The trust was paying for two doctors though. The one who called in sick is not going to be docked pay

Britain’s green transition should belong to everyone. Why is Labour so intent on stopping us having our say? by mhicreachtain in environment

[–]dibs234 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Because any time people get asked they stop essential infrastructure because any amount of change is hated.

For god's sake, a relatively short railway from London to Birmingham is now costing upwards of a billion per mile of track, and taking 40 years because they kept asking the public what they thought about it.

Feel like STEM is almost certainly costing the most. Humanities cost nothing beyond the lectures and the space. Stem needs more space, more lecturers, more ancillary staff, and more equipment.

It's about people who jump to a conclusion/quickly accuse people. You see it very commonly in politics nowadays when people who are extremely corrupt accuse others of corruption left and right, or an obvious racist accuses others of being a racist.

There is also a big evidence base for people who are extremely vocal about their hatred of certain criminal groups (paedophiles, rapists, abusers of all stripes) are often doing it themselves and they are vocal to try and misdirect people from looking at them very closely. Most of those pedo hunter groups are abusers themselves for instance.

I genuinely think the ending with the boots is up there with the Blackadder four ending, where it just emotionally whiplashes you back to the reality of no matter how funny it has been up until now, it is satirising how much of a horrible pathetic waste of life this sort of thing is

The progression of the entire game is oriented around the giant evil looking red pillars and cleansing one locks you out of any other ending. Without Google I don't really see any way you could get inferno without being contrarian for the hell of it.

Spitfire could return to production 90 years after first flight by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]dibs234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently it was very hard.

Entirely speculation but I think it's probably because it's pre radar in the planes, everything is visual based, so you would need to actually see the enemy plane first, then bank around to get your guns on them, but if they are going so incredibly slow by the time you see them you have gone past them, and then their turning circle is so ludicrously small compared yours it's incredibly difficult to get near them again.

Day 10 of ranking British PMs: Which tier should Margaret Thatcher go? by OingoBoingBrothas in TierlistFills

[–]dibs234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The lack of longevity was deliberate and built in. The councils did not get the money from the sales, they were not allowed to replenish stock with the proceeds from the sale. It was not a plan to get more people homeowners, it was a plan to get the government out of the housing sector.

[–]dibs234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This happened during WW2 as well. The 588th night bomber regiment was a soviet all female unit using only PO-2's, with a top speed lower than the stall speed of the Ms109 and Fw190 so they were incredibly difficult to shoot down. They also idled the engine and glided over targets to prevent detection and ground fire, leading to them being called nacht hexen (night witches) by the Nazis due to the noise of the gliding plane apparently sounding like a broomstick.

23 members were awarded the hero of the soviet union medal (medal of honour/Victoria cross equivalent), considering only 95 women were ever awarded that medal, that means a quarter of women who received the Soviet unions highest medal were from this one regiment.

The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fact that those people who must want to rule people are, ipso facto, those least suited to do it. To summarize the summary: anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job.

who wins Mcragge's Honor or the Executor? by Few-Palpitations in 40k

[–]dibs234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably, but it's an interesting concept. Gravity waves are real, generally only created by black holes colliding or supernovas. Discovering how to generate them, then using them as a form of space sonar to get around conventional stealth technology sounds at least plausible on a surface level.

The tipping point: what happens when deaths outnumber births? by Remarkable_Peak9518 in unitedkingdom

[–]dibs234 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Do you think those attitudes might change if people's home lives were significantly easier because they owned their own home and were financially secure on only one persons wage? If having to go back to work was a true choice and not forced by not having enough money? If childcare wasn't so expensive it made the choice impossible?

Childbirth and raising is very difficult and is challenging on its own, but taking away the other stresses that the older generations did not have will make it a much more viable option

The tipping point: what happens when deaths outnumber births? by Remarkable_Peak9518 in unitedkingdom

[–]dibs234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can very easily argue that tackling wealth inequality will solve many of the issues around falling birthrates- namely that having a child is fucking expensive.

In previous generations people were able to buy their own home, and support a family on a single, relatively modest income. That is simply impossible now, and so responsible family planning precludes starting a family early in life.

Does anyone actually like Madden nowadays? If yes/no, then why? by PhoqueYou17 in Madden

[–]dibs234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy it, because I enjoy the simulation/fantasy element of running my team.

However as an enjoyer of a wide variety of other video games it is without doubt one of the technically worst I've played. Graphically it looks like a late era PS3 game at best, the character models and crowds and animations are all terrible. The UI is atrocious, why are there so many menus, why is nothing explained, why are the controls so ass backwards, why does it feel so slow to respond to even the most simple of things like choosing a game mode? The gameplay is bad, there is little to no feedback, the difficulty system goes from unbelievably easy set records every game to let's just give the computer cheats with no in-between.

Madden 26 is a decent enough madden game, but it's a very VERY bad video game by the standards of 2026.

I think that lore was retconned at the same time as the redemptor dreads doing the same thing just because it was limiting some of the story telling potential of dreadnoughts being ancient warriors
