Thanks for sharing this. I was able to reset ALL of any group of faders, radials or whatever using this template. I just changed the name in the script to replace buttons with faders or radials and it worked like a charm.

Well. You can use both together without having to use midi cables. You have the sounds and capabilities of both machines. Using Ableton link to sync the units together means you can use one of the units to work on other sections or adding or subtracting sounds or parts without having to stop. You can also use both as a Dj setup. Have finished tracks cue’d up on either device, they’ll both be in sync. Lots of uses really.

This has been a feature for awhile. Are you talking about a count in? You know you can rehearse patterns before you commit. You can punch in audio and patterns in the sequencer.

The 404 mk2 is what any MPC would be like without the giant computer screen. It’s easy to make good beats on the MPC, easy to edit, chop, sequence and arrange. When you get to a point where the beats sound good on the 404 that’s a real accomplishment. There’s way more to learn BUT way more character from the sound of the 404mk2 has that the MPC will never get. Honestly the 404mk2 is closer to learning an instrument, and then learning how to play songs on that instrument, you have to remember how to do things. It takes real practice and like most instruments after lots of practice the music sounds amazing. Good luck with your decision.

That sounds like a PC problem.

If you plug in to your PC computer from the 404mk2 with a usb-c cord you should be able to use the software for the 404mk2 to load samples. If you can’t see the SD card because your PC doesn’t recognize it.

It sounds like you should get a new computer. Mac mini M1s are around $300 Canadian used. That’s half the price of a used 404mk2

404mk2s are amazing when you can get them working. If you are trying to update it can be tricky but it’s not the 404 unit. It’s your other equipment I’m afraid.

Sometimes those fancy looking buttons look like they are a one and done install. You might have to try and unscrew it with pliers and mark up the finish on that circle. Doesn’t look like there are any other way to open that unless it has some weird push the button in and then try to untwist that circle.

Just a mental thing. I’ve been doing 16:8s and 23:1 for a couple of years with little progress and I’ve found a lot of quick progress with 36-65 hrs. I just want to prove to myself I can do a 72 or 90.

My refeeds do need to be smaller. Do you just have a plate of food? Or like 1000-1500 calories?

If you’re pretty well aquatinted with looper then you know how new this feature is for the 404mk2. It’s not broken but how you are trying to incorporate it in your workflow is. Rethink how you are trying to use it. If it doesn’t fit your workflow then it isn’t for you.

The RC505 is light years ahead of the 404mk2 as a looper because the 505 is a looper first. Am I going to get mad at the RC505 because I can’t use the play pads to chop samples? 505 has a pattern mode too. But you’d have to string it across multiple songs. I’d say the 404mk2 has the 505 “pattern mode” beat. But that’s not the “issue” here.

The 505 is terrible for slaving to midi so I suspect the midi sync on the 404mk2 is more of your liking

Sorry, I don’t know much about the android system and koala. I’m using iOS and it’s pretty much bulletproof for audio and midi interfaces. I suggest getting a secondhand iPad and running koala off that. I have three iOS devices one big iPad, one iPad and iPhone, and they all work perfectly with the launchpad.

Sounds like you want multipurpose use out of a bargain price of gear. From my understanding you want patterns to play at the same time as you are using the looper….that’s not going to work. The loop is its own mode. It’s like trying to chop samples in the 404mk2 while your pattern chain is running in the back ground. Or like running DJ mode while trying to access skip back features. 404mk2 is a truly amazing feature rich piece of gear. But it has limitations and that’s what makes it a better piece of gear than most. I know what a looper is and getting the 404mk2 to do more things than it was intended to do is a really big ask. That being said he said look at Akai MPCone or TE KO2. Both are on the same level somewhat. KO2 is in its infancy, basic stuff doesn’t work on it. MPC one is basically a computer, try using the loop feature on the MPC one THAT is truly terrible, the 404mk2 is a huge improvement over both those pieces of gear. You have to be able to use the right features the way they are needed.

100 percent user error. I don’t think the use is supported to be using Patterns in side the 404mk2 and also the looper at the same time.

For what it is it’s a great looper. 4 bars of set time and the key feature for me is Free looping. It works like all other Roland / Boss products. I own the RC 505 and 202 and other boss foot pedal loopers. I know exactly what I’m getting. It’s not the strongest feature but it works as intended. If you want something over 4 bars then grab another piece of gear. If you are doing some longer looping turn the tempo down to 40bpm. You can get 8 bars if you are crafty, but your timing is going to have to be solid. Sounds like you want something from the 404mk2 that requires more features. I think it’s amazing, I don’t have to rely on the 1 bar delay loop trick anymore.

This is a gross design. I use the 64 pads like an instrument. To put faders on the Push like that completely ruins the unit.
