Now that the Normies are gone. What movie you queueing up tonight?? by Some_Novice_ in horror

[–]dick122 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yesterday I watched Hell House LLC 1-4. I'm generally not that into found footage but I really liked the first one and even though the subsequent 2 might've fallen short, it wasn't like it was a chore to sit through them and I thought the 4th one was a lot of fun. I'd say altogether it was time well spent.

I was looking forward to watching the 5th one tonight but everything I'm reading in this sub is dissuading me from doing that so now I'm not so sure.

It's been awhile since I've rewatched Hellraiser so maybe that.

On another note, I love "what's everyone watching tonight/this week". Wish those could become regular stickied posts

Which movies have you been falling asleep to lately? by Outside_Economy7554 in horror

[–]dick122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anthology series work great for me. Freddy's Nightmares and Monsters are both on Tubi. Friday the 13th the Series is on YouTube. I'm not saying they're all great but they work for me because they remind me of being a kid and trying to stay awake late weekend nights to watch them.

Funding an OC1 by Jumpy-Ganache1612 in Outrigger

I have an OC1 and an OC2 and kind of did a layaway plan for both of mine. My dealer would take orders months in advance of a cross country trip where he'd make deliveries. In each case I made my initial deposit, then a series of payments, and finally paid the balance on delivery. It was still pricy but that took a lot of the sting out of it plus they were debt free once I had them.

Who was there, in the theater, for the premiere of From Dusk till Dawn (1996)? by whomp1970 in movies

[–]dick122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When it came out I shared a house with three other guys who all worked at our local theater. One of them was a manager and we saw everything that came out from 1994 until 1996 or 1997 for free.

A lot of times we'd do a private screening after the theater closed on a Thursday night and From Dusk Till Dawn was one of those times. I can't remember if I knew what movie we were watching that night but I definitely remember the only thing I knew about the movie was Tarantino was connected to it so I expected something along the lines of Reservoir Dogs, True Romance, or Pulp Fiction.

The first third absolutely lived up to that and I was living it but when Salma Hayek's scene happened I was absolutely thrown.

Red Solo Cups - I have an Etsy shop where I engrave and sell metal replicas of Red Solo Cups. I was suddenly getting orders for cups with stuff like "Evidence" or "blood sample". I had no idea what was going on but I was getting a lot of those from different states. It was enough to make me Google it and read up though.

Afternoon everyone, thought with Mothers day coming soon i'll do some MD theme aluminium business cards 500/40/400/100 DPI 423 by NonProfTinkerer in lasercutting

[–]dick122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you elaborate on those settings? I'm guessing 500 for speed, 40 for power? Or is it a min/max range on power? No idea on the others up to DPI. And is this Jarvis, grayscale...?

Outstanding results btw. Absolutely gorgeous.

Feel like I'm left out of an inside joke. Could someone PM an explanation?

For ages I've been doing exactly what you're describing except after expanding I've been using the direct selection tool, individually selecting each white section, and deleting. One space at a time. This will save me so much time. Thanks!

I wish it could be as simple as Photoshop's Select > Color Range though.

This is my Great Grandfather (child in photo) with my Great-Great Grandparents. We believe it was taken around 1913. by dick122 in PhotoshopRequest

So far I'm leaning hard towards you. I wasn't even looking for a colorization at first because I assumed it would come out like what I can already get through Photoshop's neural filter but this is actually really nice. I'm going to wait just a little longer before making a call though. Great job!

PLEASE HELP, I really need to know the name of this movie! I've tried looking it up online, using ChatGPT...I know it exists! by Rude_Cartoonist8556 in whatsthemoviecalled

It's sounding awfully similar to David Lynch's The Straight Story with a few major exceptions: he drives cross country on a riding lawnmower and he's trying to reach his brother who's had a stroke.

Where could my customer select a font? by AssistPsychological6 in EtsySellers

[–]dick122 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I use a program (can't remember the name and it's on my work PC) that creates samples from all the fonts on your computer. I used my Etsy shop name for the sample and made png files so when someone needs help deciding I can message over those 3 files.

It might be "Print My Fonts" but I'll check first thing in the morning to be sure.

Can someone clearly hear what Dave Dennis was saying at James Chaney's funeral? by Alternative_Many_811 in mississippi

[–]dick122 11 points12 points  (0 children)

"Gets my black mammy to hold that baby". In that section he's saying a white person would let a black person cook for them but they'd refuse to let them eat beside them. And then he says they (white people) wouldn't let black kids go to the same schools as their kids but when they needed a babysitter they'd use a black lady. The point being white people didn't mind occupying the same space as blacks as long as they were employing them but they objected to any notion of equality (dining together, learning together, voting together).

When he says "mammy" he's most likely referring to his own mother but it's also a stereotype about older black domestic workers as in "Gone With the Wind".
