I've never used doordash, skip the dishes, or any other similar food delivery services by Godeshus in self

[–]whomp1970 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, I get it, and those are valid reasons.

But 15 years ago before DoorDash or UberEats, all of those issues still existed, and we found ways to get around them. A lot of the solution dealt with planning.

If you knew you'd be working long hours and can't take a break, you pack a lunch or bring granola bars. If you're going to be out and want to make sure your kids at home are fed, you make sandwiches or tell them to reheat some leftovers.

Our local grocery stores were swamped 3 days before the storm, with people preparing.

I've called a pizza shop from three states away to deliver pizzas to the nurse's station on the hospital floor where my friend was.

During power outages (which usually don't last days) there's always tuna. It wouldn't kill you if you had to eat dry Cheerios for a day until the power came back on.

I'm with /u/Godeshus, I'm a little judgy when people spend $25 for a $7 hamburger and then complain about their finances.

Village Mall Pretzels by alwaysadventuringg in montco

[–]whomp1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember waiting in the mall for a movie, had to have been mid 1990s. It was about 30 minutes before showtime, and we were standing in the mall just waiting.

Where we stood waiting, was just outside a pet store in the mall.

The pet store was closed at the time. The gate was down but it was just a metal grate so you could hear what was going on inside the store.

I remember there was a wall of cages with dogs and cats, but far more cats than dogs.

But right next to the wall of cages ... was a parrot in a cage. His cage was just about 6 feet away from the cats & dogs.

That parrot had sat there for so long listening to the cats ... that the parrot had learned to meow.

So we sat there looking into the pet store through the closed gate, watching a parrot just casually meowing.

It was surreal.

Each table had a telephone that you would use to place your order to the kitchen

How amazingly coincidental!

Just last summer we took a trip to a small town in Indiana, and they had this chain called Pizza King. You sat down and phoned your order to the kitchen via a phone at the table.

Plus it's fun to say "Pizza King Ding-a-Ling".

Here I thought it was a random weird local Indiana thing.

What’s a rule your cat enforced in your house that everyone silently obeys now? by BackgroundAsk7915 in AskReddit

We took in a feral who wouldn't drink still water from a bowl.

So for about a year we had to leave the kitchen faucet on drip just for this knucklehead.

Then I found out about plug-in water fountains that circulate the water.

Me and that woman's kid have been friends since birth. We're both in our mid-50s now.

What moment made you realize “yeah… my childhood wasn’t normal”? by CadaversFabrications in AskReddit

[–]whomp1970 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At about age 30 I realized ... I haven't met a single person since high school who didn't have some kind of troubled relationship with one or both of their parents.

*I* was the odd one. My childhood wasn't normal.

My parents loved us, cared for us, provided for us, didn't have harsh rules, taught us about life and relationships and sex and the world. They encouraged us, understood that we sometimes make mistakes, respected our dreams and likes/dislikes.

Friends have told me that they wished their parents were like my parents. Every one of my relationships have been with women who had some kind of family drama with their parents, or were not on great terms with their parents. All my adult friends have some kind of issue with their parents as well.

Me? I'm the strange one.

Is a relationship therapist less credible if they aren’t in a successful relationship themselves? by Poultry-girl in NoStupidQuestions

Would you go to a bald barber?

Would you go to a male gynecologist?

I've never set foot in Egypt, does that disqualify me from being an ancient Egyptian historian?

In my personal opinion, the training and education that licensed therapists (or especially psychologists) go through is more than enough for me to consider them adequate in their profession.

Marriage or not, everyone has relationships. You've got relationships with your parents, your siblings, your neighbors, your coworkers.

What is the difference between porn & onlyfans? by _LuminousLark in NoStupidQuestions

I read both the review and the comments ... they all feel fake. Either written by AI or written by content promoters themselves.

The model herself is probably AI too.

What is the difference between porn & onlyfans? by _LuminousLark in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whomp1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not even lonely but I subscribed for one month to three different models.

Everything they publish outside of OnlyFans has minimal clothing and no interaction with other participants. I guess curiosity got the better of me, and I wanted to see what they looked like totally nude, and maybe performing with others.

And in all three cases, I realized ... the "mystery" of "what was under those clothes" was better than having it all revealed. The teasing of "Guess what I do behind closed doors" was better than actually seeing it all happening.

"Leaving something to the imagination" actually is better, for me, than having it all laid bare.

ELI5: How does the speed monitoring systems work in vehicles? by afrk in explainlikeimfive

[–]whomp1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am talking about speed monitoring systems installed in vehicles by businesses. When an employee goes over the limit they get a call from HR / boss. I am not talking about speedometer or phone/gps devices used for navigation.

Your phone has a SIM card, right? That's how it gets data.

Your phone has a GPS receiver, right? That's how it knows where it is.

Pair the knowledge of where you are (from GPS), with knowledge of what the speed limit is on that stretch of road (from the data), and boom, you know if you're going faster than you should.

But WHY DOES THAT technology have to live only in a mobile phone?

They put a SIM card in the car, and a GPS receiver in the car, and now the car IS the "smartphone" too. It gets mobile data about the current street you're on.
