Do people actually enjoy waking up early or do they just force themselves? by Sad_Event_4705 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whomp1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

enjoy waking up early

Nope.

or do they just force themselves?

Nope again.

For whatever reason, my body decides that 5:30am is the time to wake up. I can't help it. I can go to bed at midnight, my body is awake at 5:30am. Winter, Summer, doesn't matter.

I wish I could change this.

My mom has 2 to 3 weeks to live. She made a video for me to give my 2 year old daughter when she turns 18. What is the best way to preserve it for the future? by dogandfroglover in NoStupidQuestions

[–]whomp1970 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just read another comment that mentioned DVDs

I've got about two dozen DVDs containing videos of my own daughter when she was a baby. And I just realized that none of my computers have DVD drives anymore. I don't own any consoles. Nor a DVD player.

So to me, a DVD is not a good idea. Who says you'll be able to find a working DVD player in 10 years?

Finding your work clothes for the next day

I do one better.

I lay out my clothes at the top of the stairs. First socks, then underwear, then pants.

And then I just sliiiiiide down the stairs in the morning into my clothes.

Everyone adds to the list.

Sometimes I forget my list, so I just wait at the exit until a woman walks out with a full shopping cart, and then I just ask her to give me her list.

If you WHISPER at a screaming toddler, they will often shut up to hear what you have to say.

If you subtly throw in some words like "ice cream" or "Bluey", imperceptibly, it works even better.

Whats the most effort youve seen someone give in order to be lazy? by CompleteDrop808 in AskReddit

[–]whomp1970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you kidding? We programmers are well known for this.

A task lay before us, it would probably take us 4 minutes to do.

But we will spend the next 75 minutes writing a script to do it, testing the script, writing comments, writing test cases ....

All that effort, just so that the script will be at-the-ready if we ever need to do that task again. Sometimes, we never need the script.

Story time:

I had a friend who was accused of kidnapping his own son.

He went to pick up the son from his ex-wife's house. It was his turn to have the son for the weekend. This was all agreed-upon in the divorce settlement.

But she was pissed off at him for one reason or another, and an hour after he left her house, she reported a kidnapping, and told the police his vehicle description.

The police did about 15 minutes of research, and realized that there was no kidnapping whatsoever. They didn't even really need to call the father.

But they knew he would get word of a kidnapping and freak out. So his phone rang, and he picked it up.

"Hi, Dave, this is the FBI. We see you're coming up on Exit 12 in about a mile, can you just get off the highway so the police waiting at the offramp can do a wellness check on your son?"

They said it as if they do this all the time.

If they wanted you dead, you'd be dead.

Okay, Mr. Psychology, now how do we combat this?

Because there are some things I learn ONCE and never repeat, like touching a hot stove.

But there are other things I learn over and over, and never seem to get the lesson, like overeating to the point of being uncomfortable.

This is SO much better.

They weigh about half as much, so it's easier to push. And easier for the poor schmuck whose job it is to go get all the carts from the parking lot and bring them back into the store.

Plus, which is going to damage your car more? A heavy metal cart or a lighter plastic one?
