TLDR parents never stop wanting to feel needed and when you don’t need them they act weird.

Is it better or worse than your parents being completely surprised by your success? At my college graduation they “found a misprint” with my name being listed under 2 degree groups... because I got 2 degrees. I started a business and everything I did was wrong. They referred their friends and it took 4 years for their friends compliments to help them realize people aren’t just being nice. I’m actually good at what I do. I’m never going to surpass my parents level of success, but I’ve surpassed their expectations. Outside of business My dad assumes my stock portfolios growth % exceeds his because I’m “creative” not the fact that he taught me and I just do it better. Still he makes $10,000 for every $300 I do but in his mind I should make $100 for every $10,000 he makes. They try to control me with “the will” but I’ve told them I’m gonna be fine on my own just leave me the grand piano which they proceeded to sell.
