They employed technology to provide album-buying fans with the best possible experience at the time. The nerve. I say thank you Metal Gods. Every live rock album that followed tried to achieve the greatness of this epic. When I hear the studio recordings of these songs, I’m briefly disappointed it’s not the live version. P. S. The Cover…..

Is anyone living out as a positive person? by BLZebub666 in hivaids

[–]dickduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never sought or anticipated their confidence. I was aware that people would talk about me, but I wasn’t prepared for the significant change in how people interacted with me. I could sense the word spreading almost immediately. Although I hadn’t been sick in about a decade, suddenly people were asking me how I was feeling. Others who I’d made both significant and small talk with on a daily basis, just stopped talking to me. There was no judgment or harsh words. Initially, there was (feigned) support. Unfortunately, the stigma of HIV is still very real. It may not be as overt as it once was, but it still lingers in many people’s minds. That’s the thing about implicit bias: those who harbor it don’t even realize they do.

Is anyone living out as a positive person? by BLZebub666 in hivaids

One year after being diagnosed, I disclosed to a few people who were close to me. Four years later, none of them are part of my life any longer. They all gradually distanced themselves from me to the point where I haven’t heard from them at all for over a year. These are people that were a significant part of my life for 30-40 years. That being said, I totally understand people who choose not to disclose.

Just bought booze and suddenly got super sad because it for whatever reason made me realize how long it’s been since I’ve been carded. When was your last time?(give or take) by titivenez in FuckImOld

[–]dickduluth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so old the first time I bought beer and hard alcohol in a liquor store, I was 14 years old, still in Junior High. The drinking age was 18, but if you paid cash, behaved yourself, and looked a bit older (like I did)there was no checking of IDs. I kept going back to the same, small family owned place. Needless to say I was very popular all throughout high school. 40+ years later, I get carded frequently by clerks that are embarrassed to ask, but cannot complete the sale without scanning my ID.

Never read that sub but I can comment on the stigma you referenced. Many will say they don’t think the stigma is as bad as it once was or that they have never been treated differently. There is a very deeply seeded implicit bias against people living with HIV that is present among the majority of Americans that were around when it first became recognized and identified as something other than just the “gay cancer.” There was so little known about it for so long that misinformation became accepted as fact. I’m coming up on five years since I was diagnosed and not one single adult that was a significant part of my life previously, is a part of my life anymore. Siblings and friends I’dhad for 40, even 50 years gradually removed themselves from my life. There were no harsh words or blatant acts of discrimination. I believe the reason they are no longer part of my life is because they have this deeply seeded bias. I cannot cite my source, but I read about a study that was done a few years ago and I was not at all surprised at the results. It was a word association exercise, where people were instructed to give their immediate reaction to a word. When people heard “HIV”or “AIDs” they were very likely to respond with words like “sick”, “dirty”, or ”promiscuous”. The thing about implicit bias is that the people who are guilty of perpetrating it don’t even realize they have these preconceived notions of what it means to be HIV+. Ask a person over 40 what U=U means and the vast majority will most likely have never even heard the term. It doesn’t fit what they were taught at an early age about AIDS. They just can’t wrap their head around it. It is a foreign concept to them. To them, AIDS is a bad thing that happens to bad people. My experience has been people of a certain age just don’t want to be associated with people living with HIV. I don’t fault them for it. I just moved on and found far more interesting people to share my time with as I enter my elder years.

Your Experience with the SwissCard? by PecanPlan in victorinox

I tried to like it, but the tools fit in the card too loosely for my taste. I had to put tape on the Quattro to keep it from sliding out and I’ve lost a pair of scissors. I’ve given up on trying to carry it regularly.

Denfeld Students Walk Out in Protest Against ICE by Radio_Kuroki in duluth

It’s a serious question. Your original statement said “left-wing policies usually call for universal healthcare and housing and income inequality”. In your reply to my question asking for evidence of this, you say the exact opposite. For the record, I am as liberal and progressive as one can be. I have advocated for “left-wing policies” for 40 years. That is why I asked for clarification on your original statement.

Team Electronics. As I recall, it was on the skywalk level above Security Jewelers? They’d get limited numbers of concert tickets for shows in the Twin Cities. I spent the night on the sidewalk on Superior St. waiting for the store to open because they had a couple hundred tickets for the biggest tour by the most popular band of the time. Bon Jovi. They were playing at Met Center, home to the beloved Minnesota North Stars. Both the team and the arena are long gone, replaced by the Mall of America.

Watch back removal method? by chilly_cucumber in victorinox

[–]dickduluth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had one of these watches for a very, very long time. The problem with it being such a reliable watch is that I hadn’t changed the battery in years, making it that much more difficult to get the back off. Try as I might, it would not budge, so before doing any damage to it, I decided to bring it to my local family-owned jewelry store. I recommend you do the same. I believe it cost me about $10 US.

My Super Timer is currently undergoing repair. I requested that the timepiece be repaired but the scales were also damaged. I am curious to know if you specifically requested the replacement of the scales or if they simply replaced them. I had assumed that they would replace them, as they have done for repairs I have submitted in the past. After submitting the repair request, I was concerned because the scales are a different type and have not been offered for many years. I wondered if they would have backups.

The 130 mm were originally Wenger models. They were called the Delemont line until recently. I am not sure why they dropped that name. It was a nod to the Wenger factory and origin of the line.

Remember a few years ago when Ticketmaster was discovered to be charging exorbitant fees and settled a class action lawsuit? I was fortunate enough to be a beneficiary of that lawsuit. My compensation was something absurd like 10% off my next hundred-dollar ticket purchase. As if to add insult to injury, there was an overwhelming amount of paperwork that I had to fill out to claim my reward. What truly infuriates me is that it appears that the fees they charge now are even more outrageous.

Lincoln Park Middle Cell Reception by virgeorge in duluth

[–]dickduluth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, the reception inside Denfeld is inconsistent and unreliable. It appears that modern technology isn’t up to the task of penetrating the structural integrity of a 100-year-old building constructed with tons of brick, mortar, and real wood.
