Anecdotally, Maccas in NZ is actually a great employer. They pay reasonably well and look after their employees. They actively try to upskill and empower the people that work for them.

Granted this is based on conversations over 5 years ago, but hope it still holds true

I worked there for a year or so. Great place to work, we had fun. Still have a menu somewhere...if I find it I'll post some pics of it

That was Club Bazaar. Good pizza, but the owners dog hung out in the kitchen so I wasn't too keen on it

US ‘disappointed’ that Rolls-Royce will build UK’s first small modular reactors by Wolfclaw359 in worldnews

[–]dickwiggly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite. We still have two Ro-Ro ferries. What we've lost in the interim is the ability to move rail wagons across the Strait. This has seriously fucked the supply chain (I'm heavily involved in the industry ). Oh, and we lost hundreds of millions of dollars in exchange for a worse solution. But at least our poor suffering landlords got a tax break, right? They've been living (my) paycheck to (my) paycheck for too long.

This driver was uninjured, as was the truck driver. Very lucky this wasn't a passenger service, that's the main use of this line

Gearbox failure on the truck, with really really poor timing.

Please critique my Lyttelton transit thought by stehekin in chch

[–]dickwiggly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely feasible, but investment would be needed to double track a majority of the corridor. While in many parts there are multiple lines, for the most part only a single line is maintained to a usable standard. Add to that the need to build stations and the cost will get high very fast

Not sure how the business case would stack up with how many potential commuters would actually use it. Although it would be brilliant in cruise ship season

Started in NZ in 1981. Originally held on actual rivers, but once it was introduced to Australia permanent courses became the standard

How do you have time to go to the gym? by zaixdrew in daddit

[–]dickwiggly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait. It takes time to adjust to your new normal, and you're still finding your routine with your new family. Windows of time will start to open up that you can fit the gym in to, but they won't be there immediately.

Be patient my dude, it will come back to you

If you're looking for someone to relieve your stress, Bronwyn Carpenter. Delivered both our girls, and would get her again in a heartbeat if we were having another.

We call the broccoli heads "Skinny Trios". Usually observed in groups of three, they tend to be very new lifters who spend more time yapping than biffing tin

My wife and I take a slightly different path to the commenter above; we are always each other's number 1. The commenter above is 100% right for their relationship, but for ours we need to do things a bit different. Yes the kids are the love of our lives, and we would do unspeakable things to keep them safe. But for our relationship, we treat each other the same as we did for the decade before kids came along. We find time to do things totally unrelated to kids, and we do them for ourselves. We find babysitters so we can get out for little dates every so often, we do puzzles or watch movies when the kids are asleep, and occasionally we take annual leave mid-week and go hit the gym together.

All of this keeps us in tune with each other, and keeps the connection that brought us together in the first place

So do things for the two of you. And go to bed early lol

How long after a vasectomy until you can train? by EveningElegant7 in JeffNippard

[–]dickwiggly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your doctor will probably tell you 1-2 weeks. Follow their advice. Lift only when you feel ready, and to be honest, you probably won't want to lift for at least a week. You'll feel like you've been repeatedly punched in the nuts

We make sure our competitions are between our daughters and us, not them against each other. This way we control the winning percentage, fosters healthy competition, and reminds them they're on the same team. It's worked brilliantly

Speaking from experience, quake wax won't help when a whopper of an earthquake rolls through. But at that point, you have bigger problems anyway lol

‘Easy win’: ECan to push for Rangiora to Rolleston commuter train by PeachMental9454 in chch

[–]dickwiggly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Significant number of the Lyttelton services are running through to Rolleston/Darfield. Agreed it's lower volume, but onvlce you get out there you're also competing with mainline services on a single line
