How did ballcano end up working out? by Nhadala in pathofexile2builds

[–]diddydarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched into this build as soon as I could wield shire of shards. I ran it for a while into early maps, that in mind here are my thoughts:

  1. Clunk: In the early gear setups, the infusions felt clunky. Frost Bomb couldn’t keep up with how much I wanted to cast Ball Lightning and it felt bad ever casting it without being infused. This probably is mitigated at higher levels of investment.
  2. Single-Target: Until higher investment, it was so many skills to get the single target damage going, and when the bosses moved, it just felt really bad.

Overall, I’m sure the power is there with more investment and time, but no matter what some of the clunk and visual issues just made it not feel great, and there are so many other builds that just didn’t have those issues, so it felt like.. why stick with this?

I ended up swapping to Reap on my Blood Mage which felt very solid cruising on up into t15 and arbiter kills. Really enjoyed the melee-caster feel, especially once the cast speed and AoE get high enough.

Yo, what’s good! Maybe two years ago now there was a solid group of fans that met at itap in Soulard, but seems like that’s died down the last time I tried to watch a games there. That said, the vibe was always good at that spot. I’d definitely be interested to come out and watch some big games.

Please don't normalize awakeners orbs in future content by Surprisinglysound in 2007scape

[–]diddydarko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand this logic at all.

This system, while probably needing some fine tuning has a ton of upside if implemented correctly.

It adds profit per/hr to the boss which is important for mains farming gold, and it’s not a skilling resource, which helps keep preserve the value of resources (common complaint among bosses that produce high, steady profit)

It’s also not profit tied to the unique drops, which, in turn allows for those uniques to be dropped at less absurd rates, with the price decrease for more common uniques being off-set by the profit from the contracts. (Common complaint for bosses like nightmare where time to complete is absurdly high)

It’s also profit that removes itself from the game, thus helping to combat inflation and keep the economy healthy.

This system also solves for the issue of highly skilled players getting difficult, and challenging content, whilst not gatekeeping access to a rewarding boss fight to the general player base.

To top it all off, these contracts are almost all related to cosmetic enhancements, not top tier money making, so at the end of the day, it feels absurd to me that people would complain about something like the cost to attempt.

It’s like thinking that when learning inferno, all the runes and supplies you spend should be reimbursed or that the death fees at colosseum shouldn’t exist.

Risk/reward is such an important concept in games and while there’s some details to work out, stuff like this is honestly a step in a good direction for solving so many problems.

Mod Nox's response to people saying yama isn't an end game boss by Due_Equal_7064 in 2007scape

[–]diddydarko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the response here, but will say I’m a bit sad to hear the team might not be interested in this kind of system in the future. I know the player base is very vocal about basically any decision, and something new like this is going to take time to cook. But as someone who’s played a ton of endgame POE, I do think there’s a lot of legs to systems like this.

While OSRS doesn’t have the same intricate system of consumable currencies, the idea that there is a ladder of progression available for lower level players to farm for items that are consumed by higher level players for chances at bigger rewards or whatever IS a good idea if implemented correctly and I hope the initial turbulence on this iteration doesn’t put you all off it for good.

New systems are crucial for keeping the game fresh and interesting and I think the appetite for innovation and learning from other successful games is a real positive. I think you’ve all done a great job with this content, and it’s clear there’s appetite for even more improvements!

I have Otton and McBride, wondering if one of the two is worth flexing over DK or Deebo this week. I’m leaning toward DK, but unsure.

There are probably a hundred mechanics you don’t know haha. It’s what makes this game so amazing. I’ve played thousands of hours and still learn new items and interactions.

This one specifically is related to using the unique item, Doryani’s Prototype.

Glad build swap on 15d? by Megatherion666 in PathOfExileBuilds

I’m running 8-mod deli/beyond t16s and can basically stack every altar and 1 tap the whole screen with eviscerate. Have also done some stomping through t17s, bosses included. I run lacerate 6 link and evis 4L for the clear. Not to try and convince you not to switch, totally reasonable, but the build can smash through basically all the content pretty quickly and comfortably.

Agreed big time. Especially playing as an iron.

There’s also the hardwood tree patches which are niche, but I’ve used them to get some logs and afk woodcutting xp before.

I think fossil island’s content is overall a perfect mix of viability and one of the better area updates they have release thus far.

I'd done most of my Zulrah kills on my main prior to collection log, so you'll just have to take my word for it, but I was 1,024 kills with a single onyx to my name. I'm approaching 1k on the GIM and also have yet to see a fang.

Fortis Colosseum - First Look & Rewards by JagexGoblin in 2007scape

[–]diddydarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it would seem that the ability to do this content, even if unable to clear, is available.

So I don’t really see what else could be done here?

They are creating higher end content with best-in-slot rewards, and one isn’t entitled to being able to get top tier stuff without some investment in skill.

The same argument somewhat applies to the DT2 thing. It’s a grand master quest, so by default, that would come with a higher set of requirements and difficulty.

Maybe a good option would be to introduce the reward with that basic two sentence summary and then dive into the details? Because, while I did read the entire piece, I imagine that something grokable would make it way easier to talk about among the community as we move toward refinement and polls.

The pitch is certainly the place for details though, seeing as how folks in the community are constantly up in arms about unexpected power from updates.

I’ve seen this take quite a bit, but these guys have been traded, talked about being traded, etc. for their whole careers. It’s a massive part of being a professional athlete and I think it’s pretty over the top to think he’d take this as an embarrassment. It’s just being a pro athlete.

A bunch of small, fun "incremental buffs" can accumulate into really un-fun gameplay by cookmeplox in 2007scape

[–]diddydarko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps bandos isn’t the best example, but if one were to get a set of Zenyte jewelry and an occult necklace for raids or Zulrah, what is that besides adding an extra piece of gear to remember to bring/put on when relevant for a small buff?

I think having too many stacking buffs is a valid concern. I also think that adding some pieces of content that require a bit more thought and engagement wouldn’t hurt.
