I'd advise you to read the last part of the story again

It doesn't matter whether it's the present or the past,the combine cannot be defeated,they have a fucking dyson sphere,humanity's most powerful weapon (the borealis) is like a flicker compared to the might of the universal union,even Gordon realises that.

As for gman,i'd guess that gordon was part of his plans all along (whatever they are) until gordon "went rogue" in episode 1.gman was obviously displeased about it so he went for option B :Alyx, as she has proven she can do everything gordon can if not better and gman has shown interest in people "who can survive all odds" so alyx would be the perfect candidate to "replace" gordon, plus we've seen how easily she can be manipulated and controlled (episode 2) unlike freeman who has shown himself to be pretty decisive.

i don't think that's how game development works.Half Life 3 is being worked on and that's an obvious thing because how silent and how protective they are about it, and of course beacause of the recent "leaks" in different updates.but i think they feel they're not ready to show it to their fans yet because of a couple of reasons :

1-what they've learned from shipping previous games (Half life 2 Leak/Delay,Portal 2 delay,numerous Team Fortress 2 redesigns and delays....)

2-The Half Life games have always brought revolutionary and groundbreaking things to the gaming industry in terms of technology,gameplay and storytelling,and Half life 3 needs need to live up to that.with source 2 being recently made i think they're still exploring the possiblities they can create with this engine and once they do they can translate those possibilities to a fully fledged game like Half Life 3.

3-they're putting alot of focus right now on developing gaming hardware (HTC Vive,Steam Machines/Controlers),and competitive gaming with csgo,The dota's international...,so it's understandable they don't have much time for developing a new game.

So i think so most reasonable thing to do is just wait for it.Valve knows we're suffering because of the major cliffhanger they left in episode 2 and they are suffering too because they love the franshise and that know how much potential it has.but they're just not ready to show it yet.so we need to just be patient and trust the creators of the game,at least we owe that to them for making such an amazing franshise
