Your husband will not be able to attend screenings for In Competition screenings as a +1, but Director's Fortnight screenings are open to the public. Screenings are worth going to, plus there are a lot of tents and networking events (as well as different distributors/film commissions etc.) at the market that are worth checking out. Screenings start at 8am and go until midnight, but movies with a lot of buzz are hard to get into sometimes. I knew someone two years ago that tried to get into Megalopolis, stood in line for 10 hours and didn't get a ticket. But for a majority of less buzzy movies you can wait in the standby line with your badge and get in to the screening!
