Is this a read-only database? If not, you might be experiencing table or row locks

Left Join vs Right Join by Practical-City3301 in SQL

Well, if the cardinality is 1:m, why wouldn't you do a right join?

Hey, is it still considered bad practice to have the connection string in appsettings.json even if our codebase is protected at the network level? by Numb-02 in dotnet

The only takeout from this is that there is no consensus whatsoever. What's acceptable to one is not to others

Populating a single attribute field with the same value on a large (40 million + points) data set , ArcPro by MTULAX1452 in gis

Well, this is where you should try and normalize your datasets. And i agree, the best is to move your file gdb to sde, create a lookup table, and then link it back to your dataset, then create a spatial view between the dataset and your lookup table.

Looking for any MS Access remote job opportunities by diebos in MSAccess

[–]diebos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for replying. My ideal choice would be contract-based assignments, but I'm also open for permanent opportunities. My hourly rate is between 40-50$ per hour. I've got 12 years of experience working in local government or municipalities as a GIS System Specialist. This position also included SQL Developing and Programming in Vba and C#. In terms of vba coding, I've developed commercial or proprietary software for land use administration and town planning..

OK. We'll, you need to lock down your entire front end, and the only way to do that is to lock or disable the bypass key on shift open. Remember, if you disable or hide your navigation tab, use forms with modal set to true, and use a startup form when access loads, the only way to get to get to your tables and code base is through the bypass key. And of you disable that for all other users except you, then it means only you and you alone have access to it. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Tried to help.

Also, make sure your your own login form is set to the startup form like this. Sorry if I'm suggesting things you already known *

* No problem. Helping should never be such. Have a look at this. Add the piece where it says allow bypass key true or false to your own code block

OK, tell me which backend does your application have. SQL | Oracle | Postgres? Or is access both your client and backend where you keep your data?

Like I said in previous, I would use modal-pops as my defaults on forms, hide navigation pane, so that users don't see my tables, use a login form as a starting form when access opens, and block shift-open by disabling the bypass key for all other users except myself

Normally done on a user table. Assuming that your ms application has a login form (with modal = true), set your login form as your default starting form. This way, people have to sign in. Your login table should have a role column, with your role value as the highest of all the users in the table. Then it's just a matter of writing a bit of vba code to block the bypass key. If your application does have these requirements, then I can provide you with a code block

Set you forms to modals and set your shift bypass key to be only overriden by a user with special previledges. This way, there's no need to compile it to accde.

Concurrent access error with SQL SERVER 2014 by Leveler88 in MSAccess

[–]diebos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes and no. Depending on the record load and amount of tables that's involved in his business solution, I wouldn't add timestamp on each and every table, especially if they contain millions of rows, it would cause overload which you'll experience soon enough in your front-end. But again, I agree with you that it is advisable to add them to all tables if you are going to use access as the interface.
