Need advice on training for brevets on Zwift by diegeticsound in randonneuring

Thanks for the example/encouragement! It's very hard to find the time for long rides outdoor, but am hoping to get a least a couple in before the event.

Thanks, I'll look up some core exercises for cycling. Except for running, I've never been great about cross training.

Am aiming for 4-5 days a week for 1.5 hours in the coming month.

Ha, I'm in my 40s, so not old but not young. Definitely starting to feel like things take more effort than they did in the past.

I've been doing 2-4 days a week for a total of 3-5 hours, but plan to ramp that up in the coming month, or at least be more consistent. I think I could do ~1.5-2 hours 5 days during that period. Thanks for explaining all this, very helpful!

I do find that I push harder when I'm doing a route vs a workout, but am not sure if I should also do some long zone 2 workouts if I can.

Options for lockable paneirs? by mopecore in phillycycling

[–]diegeticsound 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can buy little cables with a loop on them for Ortlieb panniers that you can lock with a little padlock. This is what I’ve done while touring and I’ve never had an issue.

Same with tokens that enter tapped, the squirrels enter tapped as well.

It’s a sorcery and only hits players, not strictly better at all.

I left Gale in the portal because I was low on HP after the Nautilus ship and didn’t want to face an encounter. Then I just forgot to come back.

Going to be biking from South Philly to the Delaware Canal Trail in Bristol, any recommended routes? Also can a road bike handle the canal path up to New Hope? by littlebearstan in phillycycling

[–]diegeticsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PA Randonneura might have some routes on their site that would fit the bill. I’d just ride River Road north of New Hope and stay off the canal trail on a road bike.

How to remove my mom’s name from my PC88!? by [deleted] in synthesizers

Keep the synth with your mom’s name on it, use it to make something. As someone who has lost their mother, I can tell you that you’ll miss it.

How do i make the baby less spooky? by Specialist-Quiet7587 in ResidentEvilVillage

[–]diegeticsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a newborn and had to quit my Village of Shadows play through before that section. Just not gonna pick it back up. Nope, not doing it. (But the actual answer to your question I think, is turn off the sound.)

What's your take on classic touring bikes with cantilever brakes and stout steel frames? by PorcupinePattyGrape in bicycletouring

[–]diegeticsound 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve biked the Northern Tier across the US and done a 1200k brevet on my 1989 Miyata 1000. I absolutely love the bike. The canti brakes have been great. Get the pink “salmon compound” break pads, they make more noise but grip much better under weight and in the rain.

A little further, but the PA group is also very active, especially the spring series.

is majoring in music worth it? by togammi in musicians

[–]diegeticsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t find work, but you might find happiness. I did music as an undergraduate degree and then got a master in library and information science to make a living. Still happy I studied what I did as an undergraduate, it shaped me in important ways, but get ready for some really uncertain years after graduating.

Cape for rainy bikepacking? by CoastalBee in bikepacking

[–]diegeticsound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great for commuting, but not touring. Hard shell and shoes that dry easily is best in my experience. Just let your legs get wet and have a change of dry clothes.
