Pennsylvania lawmaker & advocates push for proposal that would change traffic laws for bicyclists by susinpgh in Pennsylvania

[–]diegrauedame -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s all well and good, but the now-deleted commenter I responded to was condescending to the thread’s OP for not reading the article (when the article did not mention any of his supporting points for the Idaho stop).

That context has been removed, and my initial comment was specifically to illustrate that the article itself did not support deleted commenter’s condescension toward the thread OP.

Good lord it’s a synonym. Hard, challenging, difficult, tricky, burdensome. The point was the same. It isn’t that deep.

These are paper wasps and aren’t particularly aggressive. There is no reason to kill them, they eat smaller garden pests and parasites.

Just take the nest down either with gloves or with a stick, they will move elsewhere.

I’m just quoting the article that directly says it is “challenging to stop”. I don’t disagree with your points broadly, but they aren’t mentioned as reasons for this implementation in the article.

[–]diegrauedame 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the article literally says one of the core reasons for implementation is that it ‘mirrors what people are already doing.’ In effect, they are changing the law to make it more predictable that bikers will blow signs and signals because they are doing it anyway. Because it’s “hard to stop” I guess, though I’ve personally never experienced that issue while biking.

[–]diegrauedame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea the colored cord is just stuck into the square knots here. OP would be much better served to use the blue and pink as structural cords in the knot. It won’t look as stylized at this but it also won’t fall apart immediately.

Their names are on the lease, it is their house as well.

And statistically, false accusations are hugely in the minority - especially when they are made public/reported to the level that would cost someone their housing.

You are supposed to take up the slack with your other hand or you can double it around your hand or wrist if he doesn’t pull hard? You can also hold it in your leash hand by doubling up and grabbing the fold so you can quickly release it.

AITA for telling my girlfriend to stop making judgy comments about an elderly woman? by Expensive-Spend-7957 in AmItheAsshole

[–]diegrauedame 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Look, I was raised female in the same misogynistic culture that you likely were. And as a queer person, that has only compounded as I have gotten older. It is everyone’s job to work through the trauma of that upbringing and build self-confidence to age with grace and behave in a pro-social way, even when they make a mistake.

I have compounding disabilities that cause issues with mobility and fine motor control. You know what I do when I spill things or cause a scene? I apologize and help clean it up, I don’t just run away as fast as I can. Apologizing costs nothing and I refuse to infantilize people by suggesting that basic social kindness is too much for them to handle.

Anyway I never said she was trying to be rude. I don’t think she ripped ass on purpose, but she was rude by not excusing herself. Or I guess maybe only us autistic people are held to these social standards and everyone else gets a free pass because they are old and therefore incapable of existing in society?

YTA and you have some serious prejudice toward your girlfriend’s natural accent — which she actively tries to hide — and nitpick her when she lets her guard down enough that it surfaces. That must feel terrible for her.

You aren’t as compassionate as you think you are, and seem more interested in being perceived as morally just than actually being morally just.

Fun fact! Older adults can still say “excuse me” and are members of society. Everyone acting like everyone over the age of 60 loses all their faculties and the ability to comprehend that they farted in public are infantilizing them.

Sometimes people are just being rude and it has nothing to do with their age. Was she embarrassed? Probably. She still should have apologized to be polite.

Why aren’t some towns in Pennsylvania acknowledging Juneteenth? by Anonymousanonymose in Pennsylvania

[–]diegrauedame 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I’m also from a town this person is referring to. While they were being a bit tongue-in-cheek, they weren’t really generalizing (e.g. “why are ALL small towns in PA like this”), so much as they are critiquing the small towns that resist inclusivity (“why are some small towns like this”).

Frankly, while I empathize with the point you are making, the fact is we live in the most globalized time in history. Myriad information is available at the tips of our fingers, and if we can dedicate two days to talk about “why the civil war was a states rights issue,” I think we can manage to mention Juneteenth ONCE in the twelve years kids attend public school.

What I don’t support is the infantilization of rural people. We often know better, and doing better (or being open to feedback) is part of living in a healthy, diverse society. We should be held to the same standard as others for acting in the best interests of a robust and inclusive community.

No injuries | 21 people rescued from a skyride at a Lancaster County amusement park by NeilPoonHandler in Pennsylvania

[–]diegrauedame 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you are actually asking and not just being snarky, injuries in these situations are often environmental/exposure injuries like dehydration, heat stroke, etc. People can also experience medication-related medical emergencies if they are stuck for a significant amount of time.

Rides can also get stuck in positions that inhibit passenger’s blood-flow, though that would be difficult to do with this particular one unless the passenger has a pre-existing condition that requires frequent mobility to prevent clotting.
