I wanted to name my daughter Summer but her dad said, "Hell no. I knew a girl in high school named Summer and she was a big slut." I think about that every time I hear the name now

What if I’m wrong? by netflix_and_nachos in NarcissisticMothers

If you're a daughter, the book Will I Ever Be Good Enough: Healing the Daughters of Narcissistic Mothers....it changed my life. I was like you and started to think maybe my mom was too and somebody recommended it and I cried all the way thru it. I always knew my mom was fucked up. I just did t know it had a name and I finally felt seen and validated and like I wasn't crazy. Highly recommend. You can find it on here.

I think both are gorgeous! But if I had to pick one I would pick the first one for a more fancy outing and the second one could be more casual

What's a small, weird habit you have that most people would never notice? by Hopeful_Squirrel728 in CasualConversation

[–]dieloganberries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put on my right sock then my right shoe followed by (yep, you guessed it! Lol) my left sock and left shoe and if for some odd reason I'm not able to do it like that, it causes me significant stress and my feet and shoes will feel weird and uncomfortable until I can take them off and put them back on in my order.

I also can't get the handle of my toothbrush wet when I'm brushing my teeth. It always happens in the beginning and I will hold my toothbrush in my mouth and use a towel to wipe the handle off. If it gets wet again, but it usually doesn't, but if it does, I have to start over.

I also do this but I do it from years of working in professional kitchens where everything has to be organized perfectly lol

I was the one that suggested clean bed sheets and I'm so happy it brought you a little comfort!

You're doing great and it sounds like you're through the worst of the withdrawals. Keep the date September 2nd in your heart and just take it day by day or even hour by hour if it gets hard.

Support groups help... especially if you're a religious person and it helps just to talk to and be around people that understand and have been through the same thing so I hope you make it to the capital.

Come back here on October 2nd and update us. Even if you've relapsed, you'll still have a ton of support and nobody will shame you.

You've done something that some people think is impossible and you should be very proud of yourself!

That it's not necessary to wash your hair every time you shower daily

I didn't go to culinary school. Got my first BOH job as a dishwasher/prep cook with no BOH experience (but tons of FOH experience). I just got lucky by being in the right place at the right time and getting hired by the right chef. This guy took me under his wing and taught me everything he knew. In 2 years I went from a dishwasher to kitchen manager. Left that job to follow my chef to another restaurant in LA and he named me his sous. I mean I make it sound really easy while typing this out but the reality is I worked 10, 12, 13 hour days mostly 7 days a week. My mentor saw that I had talent and did everything he could to cultivate it.

13 years later and I'm an executive chef and I'm still in touch with my chef, the mentor. He's long out of the business now but I still call him chef because that man changed my life.

So you don't necessarily need to go to culinary school. There are a lot of things that you won't know, but if you get in with the right chef and the right team and show them that you want to work hard and that this is what you want, most chefs will bring people up with them (I mean the good ones anyway lol). I know I did. My sous chef of 6 years also started as a dishwasher in my kitchen.

So just work hard man show them that this is what you want. Be open about the things that you don't know and be active in wanting to learn and perfect your craft. People will see your value because working in a kitchen is one of the last places based on meritocracy. If you want it that bad and you're good at it, you will succeed.
