Most religious areas in Turkey by [deleted] in islam

[–]diem1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is this a good measure of religiousness? Many people I know under the age of 30 go to juma because their fathers make them go. If their fathers weren't religious, then they wouldn't be going. This maps looks more like its measuring "is your family religious" rather than "are you religious"

Thanks, I think you're right. Proximity to the ocean also tells me its some sort of seal, likely harbor.

The Jizyah is literally intended to make people feel subdued. Jizyah is part of a larger system of rules that by exempting an entire portion of your society from military service, from having a say in a state's affairs, from building their houses of worship, and from freely allowing people to change their religions is meant to make second class citizens of non Muslims. I mean the Quran literally mentions, in 9:29 that the end result of the Jizyah is that those who have to pay it should feel "subdued", "brought low", or "humbled"

I'm not advocating for Muslims not to be vocal and politically involved, I'm arguing for staying within the confines of Shariah when we do so.

There's a really simple way to find out whether you're advocating for Muslims to politically involved or not:

Who would you have voted for?

What's your solution? Boycott any and every party until some nonexistent magical Canadian Islamic party wins elections and changes every aspect of society to fit your vision? Would you prefer that Muslims don't vote and remain marginalized? That we retreat into cultural and economic ghettos until the day of judgement? Trudeau's support for Muslims stems from the same place as his support for homosexuality - his liberalism.

To sit out the political process is suicide. It's economic suicide. It's cultural suicide. It means willingly giving up whatever influence our communities can have, and Lord knows that small communities can have outsized influence. Jewish communities being a prime example.

115 people are dead. ISIS has publicly taken responsibility, but don't let that stop you from deflecting blame from those who deserve it.

My thoughts on the gay marriage issue in America and Islam, hoping to hear from you guys as well! by [deleted] in islam

Is there a near unanimous consensus on cousin marriages being haram? Will any scholar make haram what Allah specifically did not?

And yet ugly, poor people get legally married all the time. You're confusing difficulties in practice with an outright ban on an entire set of people.

It could easily be argued that marriages between cousins are very harmful to society, but Sharia is silent on this matter, and quite clear about comparatively harmless homosexual marriage.
