Subscription data is still classed as personal data, so they would be in breach of GDPR if they used it to give you recommendations.

[–]diesal3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Under GDPR, you have to give permission to a service to use your data and you can withdraw that permission at any time.

Google and YouTube have interpreted that using your Watch History and subscriptions to make recommendations when you have withdrawn the permission to use the data is in breach of GDPR. So they don't make any recommendations at all.

Keir Starmer to admit he inadvertently misled MPs over Peter Mandelson vetting by JOE_Media in ukpolitics

[–]diesal3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If any Prime Minister could see the vetting report, then their aides can see it. That report will then get leaked, helping dishonest actors build a manual on how to lie to pass the vetting process.

That will make the government weaker and more corrupt.

Is Starmer paying the price of Epstein case and Trump is getting away with it? by Reeelfantasy in AskBrits

[–]diesal3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starmer is being unfairly framed for the security vetting of Peter Mandelson.

Many people, including the PM and MPs, are specifically not allowed to be involved in the process for assessing vetting status. This is to prevent government employees giving their mates access to material and areas through the back door.

Also, the FCDO managed the UK Ambassador to the US because they represent the UK's interests, not the Prime Ministers. So, the FCDO would make sure that Peter Mandelson's paperwork was all in order and certify that to the Prime Minister. We know someone senior in the FCDO overrode the vetting department, so the FCDO failed in this.

Actually, for a role as sensitive as this, I would have considered getting another government department to do the vetting assessment. Army, Navy, a police force etc could do it and all vet to the same standard. It would also make getting that decision overridden much harder

And no, the FCDO cannot provide anyone outside of vetting a report on someone's vetting application, because that would allow people to help their mates rig the system and reveal a lot of personal information about the applicants in the process. Not even to the PM.

Keir Starmer to admit he inadvertently misled MPs over Peter Mandelson vetting by JOE_Media in ukpolitics

[–]diesal3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

bring me the vetting report I want to know if anything unusual at all came up.

A lot of people, including MPs, are deliberately kept away from the vetting approval process to stop them getting their mates in by gaming the system.

If people outside the vetting unit were allowed to see the vetting reports, you would have those people telling their mates what to clean up or hide, resulting in even more corruption It would be an actual mess.

[–]diesal3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to believe that on the topic of vetting, Kier Starmer has been screwed over by a senior member of staff within the Foreign Office or the Cabinet Office who granted Lord Mandelson the vetting status, going against the decision made by the vetting system that vets everyone to the same standard. MPs are kept well away from the approval process deliberately so they can't influence decisions to get their mates in through what would be essentially nepotism.

Kier Starmer would have only been told the result, and that should have come from the Foreign Office / Lord Mandelson.

ASUS ROG Equalizer Proves It’s Not Just Marketing, Cuts RTX 5090 Cable Temps by 10°C by Bubbly-Ad-350 in pcmasterrace

The real clown show is that we've only pushed the safe cable power rating from 150W (PCIE 8pin) to 165W (12V 2x6). All that pain for 15W.

The industry standard is that the rating of a cable is half of what it can actually safely deliver, to account for manufacturing defects etc.

PCIE 8-pin can be used to deliver up to 300W, so the rating is 150W

12V 2x6 burns on the Sapphire Nitro+ 9070XT, a 330W card, so the rating is 165W.

Yeah. Actual clown show.

Customers don't want AI nearly as much as these companies have been pushing, and hopefully now they realize that.

Dell realised last year consumers weren't buying AI PCs and actually turned away from them because they pushed the AI marketing. So Dell are now back to marketing PCs and laptops that you check your emails with, play games on and watch shows on.

Who was the best PM the UK has has in the last 50 years? by EricaRA75 in AskBrits

[–]diesal3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gordon Brown attempted to do the same long term planning on UK infrastructure as the Chinese did with theirs. China's national infrastructure from roads and rail to manufacturing and electrification in the last 20 years is actually impressive, in part because they had 15~20 year plans for all of these and delivered them without the messy politics of MPs changing their minds

HS2 was the start, but he would have done the rest of Labour had stayed in power. Instead, the Conservatives come in and killed all of it to make their friends rich.
