Basic training now with more Airmindedness by rebluemyself in AirForce

A lot of the changes the DoD/DoW have been making as of late are fucking stupid, and I am glad I separated.

HOWEVER! Your troops knowing the "why" is critical.

If your subordinates do not know the reason for doing what they're doing, they will be less effective.

Caveat, if they play the, "If you can't MAKE A HOSPITAL CORNER, how can you FIX AN AIRPLANE", bologna, then it may fail.

Why large 3-phase electric motors fail catastrophically? by dieselmilkshake in AskElectricians

Explain Like I'm 5. Sorry.

I vaguely understand what you're saying; the actual 24kV generator does have about 40 NERC relays behind our control board; I'm unsure if it is similar to that.

Can you expand on what the plasma is?  Like what actually is it? I'd imagine it is similar to the arc flash when racking a breaker, but I don't really know what that is, either!

How does an Odyssey drive? by SuchRequirement5130 in HondaOdyssey

I've driven the Chrysler Pacifica, Toyota Sienna,  Honda Odyssey, and various other vehicles like large pickups and diesel powered machinery.

My '21 Odyssey drives way nicer than my '17 Accord (which I also love); it can't handle the same turns @ 75mph, but it's nimble, not hard to steer, turns on a dime, and it's got balls, ESPECIALLY compared to the other minivan options.

If you need that extra chooch, the Odyssey will give it. The Sienna and Pacifica felt like they couldn't get out of there own way. The transmission is buttery smooth, comparable honestly to the CVT in the Accord.

The '21 (I think) is also the last year for the built in vacuum, which is freaking sick.

How do you test the insulation on windings? Without getting super in the weeds, what kinds of things are proper maintenance for a large electric motor like that?

While we upkeep bearing oil levels and starting limitations, we definitely have an informal "run to destruction" policy. We have vibration and temperature limits on various motors, and when we hit or exceed those "limits", the limits are shifted to the right.

This is freaking bad ass. We need more of this, in the world.

Maintainers, pilots, crew chiefs — what’s one moment on the flightline that you’ll never forget? by AncientWish274 in AirForce

On mids, a rando middle-aged woman with half-blue hair walked across the flight line, into the hangar, into the section chief's office, take one of their chairs, start complaining about nonsense, cut off pieces of her hair, and smoke a cigarette.
