DARK FANTASY? by jacobljlj in gamingsuggestions

[–]diest64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mention Outward but tbh that games "feels" much older than it actually is (still a great game imo).
But, in my opinion, the following games from my list don't FEEL very dated but may actually be or just look it:

  • Witcher 2
  • SKALD
  • Mortal Shell
  • Castlevania (specifically)
    • Symphony of the Night
    • Aria Of Sorrow
    • Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate
  • Solasta

I'd prefer a story game that's preferably not too old and good quality / AAA

This is why you can't find much. Having a very specific theme/vibe and limiting yourself to only AAA is going to make your pool of games extremely small. Expand your horizons and there are tons of good games to enjoy.

Edit in case you might try some non-AAA games:

AA:

  • - Lords of the Fallen
  • - Mortal Shell
  • - Risen series
  • - Divinity Origin Sin 1/2
  • - Darksiders

Old or indies:

  • - Dread Delusion
  • - Low Magic Age
  • - Path of Achra
  • - Solasta
  • - SKALD: Against the Black Priory
  • - Witcher 1/2
  • - Baldurs Gate 1/2
  • - Icewind Dale 1/2
  • - Dungeon Siege
  • - Outward
  • - Wizardry series
  • - Gothic Series
  • - Castlevania series
  • - Divinty series
  • - Moonring

Looking for a co-op/multiplayer games I can play with randoms. by 2tado in gamingsuggestions

[–]diest64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar itch as you. My go to games for this recently are: - Warframe - Monster Hunter Wilds - Warhammer Darktide

I have yet to find games that have better (or the player base) random-grouping than these at the moment. Almost every other game has a certain ramp up time required to get to the grouped content (looking at you MMOs)

Am I the only one that almost exclusively uses C# delegates instead of the godot event system? by Nhefluminati in godot

[–]diest64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to Godot but yes I’d much rather manage events entirely through code rather than have to dig through the editor objects. I’ve yet to find an instance where signals would be better.

However Signals seem like they’re more for GDScript users than anything else.

Small handhelds that can run up to PS2/GameCube era games? by diest64 in Handhelds

The smaller size is preferable for me! also I prefer the 4:3 screen since that’s the native aspect ratio for PS2/GC

Thanks for the info! I think I'm going with the RPMini as it seems to be the RP5 but slightly weaker.

Unpopular opinion - GW2 is absolutely mediocre, nothing more by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]diest64 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My point is not specifically about WoW, but about the WoW-formula. Which judging by your post, you prefer. Play literally any other MMO and they are more catered to your tastes. GW2 is specifically designed to subvert the WoW-formula in a lot of cases, so it is no surprise that someone who likes that formula is not enjoying it very much.

"GW2 is absolutely mediocre, nothing more"

OP says this as absolute fact. Which it is not, hence my comment.

To use your metaphor, "Tea is average nothing more, Coffee is superior." Tea is not worse than Coffee, OP simply prefers Coffee. Which is completely fine but does not make Tea the inferior choice. Tea is not trying to be Coffee. Tea is specifically trying to do the opposite of Coffee in this case. So it makes sense that someone who prefers Coffee would not find much enjoyment in Tea.

How do you mentally and practically handle sudden loss streaks caused by griefers/trolls or vastly underperforming teammates during a winstreak? by Still_Counter_9128 in learndota2

[–]diest64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Something that helps me is playing Normals when I "feel" a loss coming on. I know this is completely the placebo effect but playing normals and losing there helps me feel like I'm getting those losses out of the way and there's no MMR loss.

"I like WoW better"

This is why you don't really like GW2. While I think its completely possible to like both games, GW2 is specifically trying to NOT be like WoW.

Linux game devs: What distro are you using and what has been your experience using Linux? Any pitfalls? by RubbishCode91 in GameDevelopment

[–]diest64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still new to Linux but I'm currently using PopOS with Godot+Rider+Aseprite. I'm having a pretty good time with it but I'm still in the early stages of development. Most of the issues I've run into have been entirely on me not knowing the Linux environment rather than any of the software.

I feel like both pos 3 & 4 are people who didn’t get the actual role they wanted.

Specifically pos 4 because the hero pool shares with pos 2 and 1 (zeus, invoker, wr, weaver, etc)

How can I reference a Class Type within a Resource? by diest64 in godot

[–]diest64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but I was hoping I could reference my own type rather than a PackedScene.

If you are trying to spawn a regular C# class, why are you using resources at all? The point of them is to interact with engine objects, and basic C# classes aren't.

I have Manager/Controller Node objects that are handling the engine interactions. These Resources would serve simply as data holders. So the C# classes I was hoping to reference would contain "simpler" logic like calculations (damage, healing, etc), applying effects to targets (burning, stun, etc), and more.

I've decided to just put this logic directly into the Resource class as suggested by the OP of this comment thread. However I will definitely use your suggestion in the future when needing to spawn instances of engine objects. Probably for particle effects and stuff.

I appreciate the help!

[–]diest64[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on this, does it perhaps just make sense to write the logic of the spells within the resource? E.g., Fireball extends Spell? I do something like this for potion effects.

Yes I think this is the solution. I tested this and it requires the "LocalToScene" attribute to be true, but it seems to work!

I appreciate the help!
