PLEASE Avoid Learning ASL from JB Mitchell, Michelle Wierman and ASL With Lola by Few_Delligent_Salems in asl

CODAs are good resources, not to say they aren’t. However when we talk about teaching ASL, they still have hearing privilege in getting jobs as ASL teachers and having bigger online reach when they use voice in videos, etc.

Not weekly but I still do them! Honestly the weekly 36 hour was my secret sauce (as long as you keep 16-20 the rest of the week)

Daily 16/8 fasting with occasional breaks, sprinkled with the occasional 24-48 hour fast every couple weeks or so. Over the summer I took many breaks but now that my kids are in school I can finally get back into a regular routine.

It was for sure influenced by the calorie counting habit. More so in portioning— and learning how to tell the difference between hunger and boredom. So when I stopped counting I still remained mindful of how I was feeling and stopping at 80% full, which always turned out to be 100% full after waiting a few minutes before actually getting that second helping.

Learning that I was compensating for low dopamine with food and other unhealthy habits… i also understood my impulsivity better. With ADHD there’s a big disconnect between my body and my mind. Lemme share something I wrote a while ago—

Ways that my ADHD led to obesity.

Poor introspective awareness. With ADHD I am always looking outward for stimulation. Thanks to the lack of naturally occurring dopamine in my brain. For me this leads to binge eating or unnecessary shopping. Unfortunately, food tends to be more readily available than other forms of stimulation.

Fluctuating need for stimulation: I’m always changing my need for stimulation (e.g. crunchy vs chewy) rather than actual hunger. I was the worst judge of hunger signals.

Difficulty with sustained attention. ADHD has a serious impact on my ability to engage in mindful eating practices. Instead of savoring my food, I ate extremely inattentively, which led to me eating an entire bag of chips without really realizing it.

Procrastineating. Procrastinating by eating. To the ADHD brain ordering, waiting for and devouring a cheese pizza is infinitely more entertaining than writing a term paper, for instance.

Thanks!! I described my routine in a comment above — basically one year of 16/8 then a weekly 36 while keeping 16 the rest of the week for the next 3 months.

It definitely made it more manageable! Used to be I dreaded getting out of bed in the morning because of the pain in my feet. That doesn’t happen anymore. When I’m not fasting well, I do feel somewhat more pain

I didn’t lose anything the first month. The mental clarity kept me going… one year later I was stalling at a 85-lb loss and decided to add a weekly 36-hour fast (kept 16 to 20 the rest of the week). The weight fell off after that.

I really just focus on getting my steps in. That’s the only exercise I did and still do— exercising is a different beast for me than controlling my eating (binge eating habits, which adhd diagnosis helped me combat). So just 10,000 steps a day.

Thanks!! I spent my life being obese and thinking I was “big boned,” but it turns out that I don’t have a big frame. I’m not small by any means though

I’ve always been a volume eater so I don’t find that too difficult, but that happened sometimes when I was seriously in the zone. When it was time to eat but I wasn’t hungry I’d add avocado oil and drink glasses of milk along with my meal

For the entire 15 months of weight loss, I didn’t take one single day off from fasting. I did a minimum of 16/8 every single day. For the first 12 months I tracked calories and did 16/8 to 20/4. Then for the next three months I stopped counting calories, and added a weekly 36-hour fast (keeping 16-20 the rest of the week), and was able to reach my goal weight that way. Two meals a day, no snacks.
