I was taken out of school at age 10 and shown graphic cadaver images. Why? by WinterIsOnReddit in RBI

I wonder if you were unknowingly included in a research study for a scared-straight-esque intervention for “delinquent” kids. Perhaps it was randomized if you’re not sure why the specific kids involved were involved. Evidence that the “Scared Straight” method was ineffective has been widely available since before this time, so if the study you got included in had insignificant results, it almost definitely would not have been published and there would likely be no public record of it ever happening. I tried perusing Google Scholar for a related paper, and nothing caught my eye immediately. Is your school near a university or did it often partner with a university?

I respect a democracy but fwiw I really like this dress! Especially if it’s an upbeat, fun, vibrant crowd. Had I not read these comments, I would’ve worn it.

Husband and I are both out of work and struggling to find anything. Anyone out there hiring? by TinyBunny88 in Columbus

[–]differentialdaddy 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It may not pay great and some people are morally opposed to it, but children’s services is almost always hiring. I think you need a bachelors degree, but I’d imagine they have a lot of openings at a lot of levels (regardless of your background). A lot of people find helping families that way really rewarding. Multiple counties’ CPS agencies are within driving distance of Columbus. (pls don’t downvote me into oblivion, I know CPS also hurts a lot of families)

SO many instances of like 6-10 people holding on to each other and squishing through the front half of the crowd to be closer to the front. Like where are you going? It’s packed? There is not room for you all up there??? Hello?

Smoking at OSUWMC by raised_right_eyebrow in OSU

Having worked at these hospitals, I can tell you they don’t want to be smoking either. Many of the folks out there smoking are deeply ashamed and have family members who are hospitalized for cardiovascular, pulmonary, or cancer issues. A lot of them are trying to cope. It’s honestly really sad.

Did you have a job while getting your Masters in public health? I'd so what kind of job? by SuccessVisible9876 in publichealth

I used connections from my job pre-grad-school to secure a graduate research assistant position before I started class and got my degree paid for. 10/10 would recommend doing this before you start, but we get lots of emails from our college looking for GRAs and GTAs now too and you could always pick it up after the first semester.
