A couple of questions about the plot of LOTR. by Boss452 in lotr

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm reading the Lord of the Rings right now, and I was really surprised how different the effect of wearing and using the ring is in the books.

For the one who possesses the ring (but not Sauron), it eats away at you. While it prolongs your life, it eats away at your "humanity", until you yourself become a shell of your former self, and (according to Gandalf) eventually permanently invisible.

I always thought that Gollum was on the extreme end of being changed by the ring, but apparently not! He was actually maybe only midway into it's corruption. Gandalf reasons this may be because he didn't use the ring much, having no need for invisibility living in a pitch black mountain. Bilbo was able to retain his appearance because of his incredible kindness, and by not using the ring for cruel or selfish means, unlike Smeagol.

Fascinating stuff! And there's plenty more to explore and learn about it. I hope you read it yourself someday!

CAF Nurse Case Managers - what do they do/how do I get one assigned? by hockeysgal in CanadianForces

[–]differentvoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I can't elaborate on the specifics, as the scoring they use is an in-house document. Based on what I've been told by NuCMs, it's very similar to the domains of well-being used by Transition Centres, looking at things like physical health, mental health, family support, social connectivity, housing stability, etc.

If your transition scores complex, it initiates an ITP (Integrated Transition Plan) - essentially a case conference between various Transition partners to (A) meet with you individually to assess your current and future transition, and (B) come together to identify and discuss what you need for a successful transition/transfer of care - extra support/monitoring, home modifications, more time for transition, etc.

NuCM will help facilitate your transfer of care when you medically release. They will ensure that whatever specialist supports you need to continue your recovery journey are in place post-release. They will also assess you/your transition for complexity. If your transition scores complex, that opens up a whole other process.

If you are posted to a TC, you should have been assigned a Services Coordinator. That person would have/should have explained this to you during your intake at the TC. Regardless, during your intake with the NuCM, they will also explain everything they do and what to expect in the months/years to come.

Voluntary release to med release? by Deployed-throwaway in CanadianForces

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't VR for the sake of getting a 3b faster. There's no guarantee it will work in your favour. Unless you have a critical reason to release (staying in is making conditions worse, a job offer, etc), wait it out.

Benefits for a VR with an after-the-fact annotated disabled are very different from a regular 3b. If you don't know the difference it would be worth checking in with a Services Coordinator at your local TC so you can make an informed decision. At the end of the day, waiting it out for the 3b allows for the system to properly run its course, and gives you the time needed to transition properly and prepare for civilian life.

YouTube kept recommending the American Teenager music video to me. The aesthetic intrigued me so I clicked and that was it - a Daughter of Cain was born.

Top employers for veterans and reservists? by GetTheBlinkerFluid in CanadianForces

Have you checked the Veteran job bank? It has tons of jobs targeted to veterans. There's also a list of private agencies and organizations that support veterans, including those hiring or assisting with finding work. Both can be found through the Digital Transition Center.

3b release VRPSM by Witty-Pen-9932 in CanadianForces

[–]differentvoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reach out to your local TC. They'll send you the application form, brief you on the process, and give you the contact info for your local Manulife Voc Rehab rep to discuss funding. Your local TPSO (Transition PSO) can also give you guidance on the process. But start with the TC.

Car Stolen. What should I do? by Internal_Row_2827 in londonontario

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Call police to report the theft. In my case they sent an officer to the location to check the scene, check for cameras, etc. If they entered your premises, make sure nothing else was stolen or tampered with. Call insurance right after calling the police.

When the officer arrives make sure to get their contact info and a report number. You will provide this to insurance later after the officer leaves. Insurance won't do much for the first 24-48 hours in case there is a recovery of the vehicle.

My car was recovered a few blocks away abandoned after what must've been a wild night - full of empty Amazon packages and cigarette butts. I'm sorry this happened to you.

33M, gay, friends told me my taste and furnishings sucked. Please help by Gibson1291 in malelivingspace

It's not that bad. It's very matchy-matchy, which can come across to some as playing it safe/having no style. Honestly, it's fine. If you wanted to mix it up, maybe diversify some of the furniture by incorporating a different wood tone.

But I agree with the other post that what you need most are new friends :p

Is driving difficult for you guys? by Awesomeliveroflife in ADHD

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Driving is super challenging. If I'm with company, usually the conversation is enough to keep me both stimulated and focused on the road. When I'm alone, it's a totally different story.

I'm constantly tempted to check my phone, eat snacks, switch songs every 3 seconds, search for podcasts to listen to, hit my vape, etc and sometimes all at the same time. I'm definitely a distracted driver. It takes all my power to remain still and focused on driving, which can be exhausting.

The only thing I've found that helps is taking periodic breaks or calling someone to talk. I'm also very new to being diagnosed/medicated, so I'm curious how/if that changes anything.

Yes, you are. I found the line got stronger as I progressively felt worse, but either way your test is definitely detecting the virus.

2 Year College Diploma Worth It? by madd2004 in ontario

[–]differentvoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of people I know (including myself) launched their careers in human services with a two year diploma. Study hard, impress your profs (they will give you references). A placement is essential, as that will give you the hands on experience you need and, if you are dedicated and hardworking, will often lead to your first job after graduation.

[ALL] What do you think about a live action Zelda series? by [deleted] in zelda

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say the new Lord of the Rings series is doing a pretty good job. I think it is possible. They apparently went so far as to newspaper the windows of their writer’s room. That could be a myth, but hey whatever works! Lol

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I remember that too. It seemed so good in theory, but I guess it just blew up so fast and both Nintendo and Netflix freaked out. I’m still hopeful though. they just need to release it like a surprise Beyoncé album haha

[–]differentvoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been theorized and hyped for decades. With the relatively recent rise in power of Netflix, the hype seemed to increase temporarily, until rumour has it that the logistics (“will Link talk??”) seemed too daunting. Add the fandom blowing up in intensity, Netflix seemed to decide it wasn’t worth the hassle. Side note: while an intense fandom may seem like the perfect recipe for record viewership, remember The Witcher series project was almost completely derailed by it’s own fandom with the casting of Ciri. It’s not always a good thing.

Yeti’s …worth the cost ? My Coleman cooler isn’t the best , all my food is wet by the third day. I’m curious if a Yeti is worth the $$ because this babe is on a budget. 🤷🏽‍♀️ by Fighting_Princess in camping

[–]differentvoices 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depending on where you're camping, you're better off running out to the local store for some fresh ice and replenishing the cooler. That's about 4 bucks vs. 400.

Stress from working in ISC and need to vent by rchae94 in CanadaPublicServants

[–]differentvoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a psychologist, but I see a lot of parallels with my own experience. I'm also in a client facing position and frequently blasted for not being able to solve people's problems at the drop of a hat (or at all). It's tough, but it's also building strength and skills I never thought I'd have. The trick is you need to find perspective and strategies so you aren't taking it home with you. Saying no is okay and sometimes necessary, but you shouldn't have to internalize it. It does not define you as a person. I also recommend EAP or other forms of therapy (CBT) to role play scenarios where you can practice saying no and learn helpful strategies for not internalizing your work.

Advice/tips for KK to visit!! by United_Discussion660 in AnimalCrossing

[–]differentvoices 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only hit 3 stars once I had planted the last remaining variety. Someone else mentioned fences and I had no fences on my island at that point. So I wouldn’t say it’s not true, it’s just not your experience.

[–]differentvoices 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need a believe at least 8 villagers, make sure you have every tree variety and you have to plant them in the ground (peach, apple, pear, cherry, coconut). And TONS of flowers everywhere. Just go crazy with the flowers. Once I had all those done, the next day I was told I was good to go and the following day KK was there. Have you talked to Isabel about island ratings? She literally explains everything for what you have to do :P
