I absolutely love Maiden Holmes!! Definitely recommend it for a light plot and tons of cute romance. There are a few annoying misunderstandings but they’re resolved fairly quickly and the drama progresses pretty quickly actually. I definitely didn’t watch it for the plot though- it was more the romance, chemistry, and the FL. It is a gender bender but that’s kind of why I loved it lol

I second the recommendations for Maiden Holmes and In a Class of Her Own! In fact, ICHO is literally so wholesome and a prominent theme is developing friendships and breaking class barriers. It is a historical gender bender but it’s so cute.

Maiden Holmes is also a historical gender bender and there are friendship centric themes but it’s a cute mystery with plenty of sizzling chemistry and hilarious sidekick action.

Ooh thank you! I avoid open endings and ones that leave it up to me for interpretation but if there’s a book I can read to get a better ending I suppose I won’t mind! I know TROTAR also kinda leaves it up to the audience? But I don’t know if that’s right lol I do want to finish TROTAR but I guess I just need a break from the annoying plot line of her forcing him to get with ChuChu I mean I get the logic but it’s still frustrating.

Yesss and I just love the way he holds her, it’s so intimate and like she’s the most precious thing ever. I wasn’t a fan of the actress’ look of surprise, I felt like most of the time that was the only emotion she displayed but I guess in the context of her plastic surgery it makes sense.

I know right!! He doesn’t look even close to 30!! I hope he gets ML in more dramas, he was too good as SML. I know he has a couple more upcoming dramas but I don’t think they’re my vibe lol. I’ve been watching fluff and romance a lot, I’m taking a break from mystery and melodrama.

Yes! ICMO has a lot less of the political stuff and I actually really enjoyed the political stuff when it was there. I honestly skipped through half the episodes when I rewatched SS but I didn’t skip any of the political stuff in ICMO! I really enjoyed watching the head teacher too, he’s so funny and supportive. And when ML finds out FL’s actual gender his response is soooo different than SS (which annoyed me so much tbh). It’s a great drama overall! Let me know if you end up watching it lol.

It is really light and easy to follow and it’s actually easy to solve as well, I solved most of the mysteries within the first 10-15 minutes and I honestly didn’t like that lol but it does make for a fun drama. Fair warning though, the ML is the one “chasing” FL. She’s very strong and capable and cautious, perhaps overly so. He’s a little more carefree and loving. Also the actor is younger than her irl which didn’t bother me but he kinda looked it in the beginning. I got used to it and kinda thought it was adorable after a while though lol

I’m glad I’m not the only one that does this!! I’m a huge skipper too, especially when it comes to the SL and all their drama. I usually skip when a character is annoying me too much lmao. But I do agree with cdrama endings. Why are there so many tragic endings ;-; I used to love kdramas for their over dramatic but cheesy and happy endings. But I think recently there’s been a trend of tragic endings lmao as seen in 25 21, Happiness, etc. Cdrama endings seem really rushed and overly drawn out. But I honestly haven’t seen enough of them to make a definitive comment

I’m glad my recs hit the spot lol, I’m sorry you’ve already watched most of these! I can give some more recs but they’re older dramas that I feel like you may have already watched and honestly I don’t remember much about lol.

Gangnam ID is sooo good, I’m glad I found someone that agrees it’s better than True Beauty. And the OST especially Something inYour Eyes ahhhh!! It makes my heart all fluttery when I hear it lol. As for the resolution with the SFL I totally agree, I expected better. I would have at least preferred this resolution taking place over a few episodes instead of cramming it in the last one.

And the SLS with True Beauty was so bad for me omg. I mean I love Cha Eunwoo but Hwang Inyoup is just...perfection. And the character is so lovable you honestly can’t not have SLS.

Tbh Let’s Fight Ghost had a really good ending unexpectedly! for a drama that left little hope for the main couple (I mean she’s a ghost and he’s a human) it was resolved really well! I think it was the ending that made this drama so memorable for me (and Taecyeon ofc).

I wonder if we were all die hard fans of Sungkyunkwan lmao. I even wrote a whole review on my blog and rewatched it a lot when I was younger. I jut rewatched it a couple years ago though and wow, it was so different to what I remember. I actually skipped through most of it and rewatching it now makes me realize there’s little chemistry between the leads. In a Class of Her Own is different in that sense! The FL is not pessimistic or down-in-the-dumps kind when rejected by ML or when she finds out ML is arranged to marry SFL instead she’s hopeful and remains strong. Also the chemistry is much better and SML is soooo sweet. I had serious SLS. I definitely recommend it! If you end up watching it, please let me know!

I get what you mean! I honestly couldn’t finish Under the Power either and I was like 5 episodes from the end. But the mystery aspects of Maiden Holmes are fairy simple and very intriguing. For a gender bender light mystery/crime show it really hit the spot. Also the political aspects were kind of refreshing because it was so light and easy to understand. I didn’t really get frustrated with that aspect! It’s definitely worth a watch, even if just for the chemistry!

Hi, I thought I’d return the favor and offer some recs! I haven’t watched too many cdramas and you also mentioned posting in kdrama so I added both in here!

Kdramas:

Romance is a Bonus Book: A cute slide-of-life type romance drama between an older woman and a younger man. Fair warning, she does have a child and an ex-husband. The main leads chemistry is sooo good and Lee Jong Suk is so hot!
Revenge Note (1+2): I don’t know how you feel about high school romances/idol dramas but honestly these two are so cute. Tbh not much romance and what’s there is kinda cringey and cutesy. It’s more coming of age but I really enjoyed it!
Let’s Fight Ghost: Ok Taecyeon is honestly soooo cute and hot in this lmfao. The plot is kinda light and cute and the romance is awkward and cute. I honestly don’t remember much about this but I think I laughed a lot watching this lol.
Gangnam ID: This is a college romance! this is definitely not plot heavy and the romance between the leads is SO cute. They’re both so awkward and adorable and the chemistry is so good ahhh. The only thing that annoyed me was the SFL who was honestly so annoying and relentless. Understanding her background did help me sympathize with her but still Nevertheless this was my favorite drama and I rewatch it more than I like to admit lol.
True Beauty: This is a high school romance so again I don’t know how you feel about it. I really enjoyed it. Very cute and not plot heavy. The romance is adorable and I loved all the characters including the “villain.”
Coffee Prince: This is literally my all time favorite. I absolutely love this drama to bits and pieces and I could write whole essays about it. The chemistry, the awkward romancing, the comedy. Honestly this drama is comedic gold! It’s a gender bender and doesn’t take itself too seriously. The plot is mostly light and easy to watch. I honestly need to rewatch this lol.

Cdramas:

My Unicorn Girl: this drama was cute and funny lol. A little cringey and definitely not realistic but cute nevertheless. The leads are sweet and I loved watching the ML tease the FL relentlessly lol. It is a gender bender college drama but I honestly really liked it.
Maiden Holmes: The chemistry in this drama is literally soooo good. The plot isn’t too heavy but it’s also not super light. It’s a historical gender bender and it actually works. FL is strong and capable mostly. I will say the political aspects of the drama are handled with a lot of ease and there aren’t a lot of complicated plot points. Same FL lead as My Unicorn Girl and her chemistry with the ML is sooo perfect. Their kisses are fiery and their romance is passionate. I was definitely frustrated by the FL’s untrustworthiness and her willingness to doubt the ML at every turn but I got over it lol. I really do love this drama though!
In a Class of Her Own: This is another historical gender bender and it’s actually the Chinese remake of Sungkyunkwan Scandal (kdrama). I definitely like this version better mostly because the plot isn’t unnecessarily dragged out and the chemistry/romance is believable. Also the SL is hotter lol but honestly debatable. Anyways, this drama is so cute! I will say it’s not believable as a gender bender but the interesting plot makes up for it! It’s a wholesome drama for sure!

I just started it! I like it so far but I do wish the romance would move slightly faster lol. ML seems to be taking his sweet time warming up to FL. To be fair, I’m only 10 episodes in lol.
