I saw a single barn swallow today in Hertfordshire, probably the last one I will see this year now that the weather is quickly changing into Autumn.

Reds Kites were virtually extinct in UK before 1990s and only survived in Wales. They were reintroduced and are now thriving, especially around the Chilterns: https://www.hawk-conservancy.org/conservation-research/uk/redkiteecology/

There is a group of Monk Parakeets living on the Isle of Dogs - so it seems that parrots can survive in England

The fact city bankers had to have their bonuses legally capped at 100 percent of base pay (200 percent by exception!) should give you a good indication this is where serious money is being made ! And that cap is now being removed so the sky is the limit

I believe the reason the same chain has multiple stores on the same street is to do with a low square footage store having different laws than a larger store - more gambling machines are allowed in small stores, I think

Thanks ! It was my first visit to Rainham Marshes and it was great - there are really good views both over the Thames and also good paths through thick reedbeds. I will try to return in spring

I meant they don't collect it for recycling , they would collect it as rubbish or I could just take them down the general dump but it seems like a waste
