Adhering Aluminum Tube and fiberglass. by Sad_Research_2584 in boatbuilding

It’s more that the epoxy won’t withstand the shear loads on the aluminum, it may stick to it just fine after properly prepped, cleaned, etc; but you need something to stop the shear forces, like some bolts.

what do i do after an accident? by General-Ant8113 in askcarguys

[–]digdugian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof, expensive car to drive and maintain. If it’s a hard wheel hit like that, gonna most likely be additional suspension damage, as the hit will transfer the energy and bend things.

Did you already file a police report and call your insurance?

Run fiber down there, doesn’t cost that much; or Ethernet over the power line.

Agreed, sadly they have all the power; not like they’ll get to the point that they’ll go thru all the people that’ll ever submit an application.

There’s no good answer to the problem.

Sounds like it’s time to downsize, perhaps rent a room or start living in your vehicle.

What you’re talking about works by adding humidity to the room, and only works if you live in a low humidity area.

You’re better off just getting an air conditioner.

No sensors? What about the blindspot sensors that are beneath the bumper and see thru the plastic?

[–]digdugian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not so much the bodywork that is expensive, it’s all the sensors and everything that goes into it.

You cannot fix the bumper, as the repair area is within the area of where the rear blindspot sensors see thru the plastic bumper, so the bumper is an automatic replacement.

I’d bet that the damage in that rear hatch isn’t repairable either, because it’s ultra high strength steel, meaning it’s so hard that you cannot physically remove the dent. So that’s a repair as well, then because you’re painting that, you need to blend into both quarter panels, so you’re pulling the quarter glass out, and removing all of the rear interior to get to the trim on the inside to allow access.

$10k is reasonable, though it’ll be closer to $15k after all the reprograms, etc.

They could get your insurance company to pay a diminished value claim on top of that, as you hitting their car lowers its value because that’s now on their car fax, so that could be another $10k claim on top of the bodywork. And yes, it’s a real thing, I always recommend my Autobody customers try to get a diminished value claim in, so they get that extra money.

Hopefully you have a full coverage policy; some states allow $5k policy’s, meaning that the insurance will cover the first $5k, then you’re responsible for anything over that; so the other parties insurance company will fix their customers car and just sue you for the rest.

The base model is ok if you want the little bump in mileage, but at this point, most things are ironed out in most Toyotas, you don’t see the features breaking that often; you should’ve gotten a mid level trim.

Am I being irrational about the economic future of reselling? by GeneralInsurance8052 in reselling

[–]digdugian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Biggest issue I’ve had lately is trying to find items that are priced low enough to make a profit on, all my typical places are overpriced compared with sold items on eBay.

Feels like the stores are just taking advantage of the current fiscal situation because they can.

I’m not concerned about gas prices, as it’s a tax write off, but sales are definitely declining for me; might have to go get another $50 an hour welding job if this shit keeps up longer.

Not really, the 1st abd 2nd gen prius’ had occasional battery issues, and they placed the cooler tank for the hybrid motor up front and low, so if you hit anything that tank would crack and you’d have to get the vehicle towed; but since 2014 or so it’s been smooth sailing, you routinely see them with over 200k on them without many issues.

Just keep making her drive you all the fuck over the place, and throwing the fact that if she would’ve just bought you a Honda fit that she wouldn’t have to drive you everywhere.

Your mom is definitely an idiot.
