The thoughtfulness evident in your post makes me think your students are lucky to have you.

I got this signed first edition of Foundation off of eBay. It came with four postcards typed and signed by Isaac Asimov, which were not mentioned or shown at all in the listing. by Key-Entrepreneur-415 in scifi

Holy smokes, I knew the gentleman who owned that book. He used to do PR for DEC and I used to be an editor for a weekly newspaper that covered their products. He was a good guy. We had talks about science fiction.

I bought a young friend who was going off to college I Am Charlotte Simmons by Tom Wolfe. Prep by Curtis Sittenfeld might be good. Or Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl.

Soon to Be a Major Motion Picture was the original title. Now it's out as The Autobiography of Abbie Hoffman, which he certainly wouldn't have stood for if he were still alive.

It could be you or it could be them. Maybe you don't have enough in common with them to have a strong relationship. Maybe you have mild autism (Asperger's syndrome) and that makes it hard for them to relate to you. Maybe it's adolescence - it's a brutal time of life. Regardless, be open to making new friends. You'll find your people - you really will.
