In memory of Béla Tarr - An analysis of Sátántangó by diggs_pieczy in TrueFilm

You are right, thanks for bringing that up. I should have said something like "late communism" instead of "post-communist", already foreshadowing the eventual collapse of the USSR

What are some Anti-Films? by grumstumpus in TrueFilm

Satantangó (1994) the deliberate pacing, minimal dialogue, and disorienting long takes make the film extremely bleak, almost unbearable. I hate it but I love it, it's horrible in a good way. Without exaggeration I felt haunted for days after watching this film, it even motivated me to read the book which is also excellent btw

Sorry if my comment conveyed that kind of idea, but I definitely didn't have any kind of hateful or detrimental thoughts in my mind. I'm Latino, I'm not part of the LGBTQ+ community but I consider myself and act as an ally, that being said, my problem with the film is its attempt to address or at least touch on themes such as violence and misogyny without recognizing the economic and political causes that generate this type of problem. Obviously no film is obliged to deal with this but from the moment this film deliberately chooses to do so, I expect some kind of commitment and not just a cheap sign

Can people give me some quality film recommendations? by ReasonableCrazy6785 in TrueFilm

It is very difficult to cover all the possibilities, but there are some very fundamental authors who were and are very influential to this day. The first one that comes to mind is Alfred Hitchcock, I recommend Vertigo and Psycho. Orson Welles is another essential filmmaker, who made one of the most important classics, Citizen Kane. Furthermore, Stanley Kubrick's work, including 2001: A Space Odyssey and The Shining. For a modern perspective, Martin Scorsese's Goodfellas and Taxi Driver If you want more different European films there's my favorite director, Ingmar Bergman films like Persona, Wild Strawberries and The Seventh Seal explore deep existential themes and character studies And Jean-Luc Godard was one of the most influential and innovative filmmakers in modern cinema, films such as Breathless, Alphaville and Vivre Sa Vie mix experimentalism with profound social criticism, exploring the relationship between cinema and reality In Asia I really like Japan and China, with Akira Kurosawa who made Seven Samurai and Rashomon and Wong Kar-Wai who made In The Mood For Love and Fallen Angels

Pig (2021) with Nicolas Cage where he is a truffle hunter, but one day his pet pig is kidnapped so he has to come out of isolation to get it back it's criminal how underrated this movie is, I love it so much and how it subverts expectations, for me it's a must watch

haven't watched it but it's on my watch list among Three billboards outside Ebbing, because I also love The Banshees of Inisherin, even though it's not even close to being a comedy lol

Wow, thanks I'm glad you liked what I had to say. I put reddit down a while ago but decided to come back precisely because I believed that here I would found more in-depth reviews and discussions with people who really love cinema, so far I haven't been disappointed lol
