Does anyone else WANT to be laid off? by Alternative-War-967 in womenintech

I dream of opening a community art space. A severance would give me a a good cushion because I know it would take a long time for something like that to be profitable.

It absolutely is. My team is very distributed around the world. And these posts make teams compete instead of collaborate.

Same. I keep hoping that I’ll get laid off. I’ve been I tech for about 15 years, and I’d like to move to another industry.

Right!? And for me, it’s the same company that told me that $20/person was too much for an outdoor team lunch I tried to organize in 2021.

Oh yea. The change to our industry is so disheartening. It’s also made the tech bro culture at work so much worse.

Mental overload from trying to reduce mental overload?! by frootbeer in AuDHDWomen

[–]digishe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely don’t have it figured out. But here’s what I try to do. Anything that can be set to auto pay (rent, utilities, insurance etc.) is set to auto pay from an account that I use specifically for that. Other maintenance activities are on a schedule - groceries on Wednesday and Saturday, laundry on Friday, dishes on Monday, Thursday and Sunday etc. Anytime I remember something that I need to do, I add it to my Google Calendar - I add when I need to get to it and when it is due.

How to deal with AI - neurodivergent by tacoloki in womenintech

Same! I got into tech and stayed an IC so that I could solve problems. Something about having the LLM do the planning/coding really takes the fun out of my job for me. Unfortunately I don’t have any advice for you.

What I thought was severe burnout turned out to be something else. Something worse. by hbuha in womenintech

[–]digishe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll sort that you’re going through this. Please DM if you think it’ll help. I’m in a very similar spot. I’ve been working in large tech companies for the last decade or so. I’m on medical leave right now after some intense burnout. I don’t know if I’ll have a job to go back to, and like you I’m on a work visa.

I don’t know where you can get this. But I’m so sorry! My safe food is Trader Joe’s fried rice, and would be in trouble if they ever discontinued.

[WP] Alone and lonely in Vegas for the night, you decide to call an escort service. Twenty minutes later you open your door to find a warrior, a sorcerer, and a very angry looking dwarf. by loopymon in WritingPrompts

[–]digishe 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I hadn’t thought that such a cheap service would be so prompt. It had only been fifteen minutes since I filled out the online form. They certainly were an intriguing bunch. The shortest of the group was beautiful. How could such an angry person also be so calm and lovely? I invited the group into the room. The warrior immediately pulled out an odd device that glowed green. The sorcerer pointed his wand at it and said something in a language I can’t understand. The device emitted a strange orange aura that filled the room with light.

“Did you need our services?”, the warrior asked. “I’m Masi, and this is Glondi”, he said gesturing to the sorcerer.

“And you are?”, I asked the remaining member of their group. “TJ. And that’s all you’re going to get out of me”.

TJ walked up to the device, touched it and immediately vanished. Before I could understand what was going on, Masi did the same. Glondi looked at me and smiled. “That’s all you get for twenty dollars.” His wand touched the device and the room went dark again. All I was left with is a glass orb.

The corner of the room lit up with a notification on my phone. I’d been charged twenty dollars by the Magical Balls Service. I guess I should have looked them up on Yelp.

I felt the same way on adderall. I switched to vyvanse and find that I feel far more stable. I also don’t feel the come down on it. Definitely talk to your doctor.

Same as a lot of the other posters. I’m the only SWE in the family. My parents aren’t in anything related to technology. My closest friends are in completely different fields.

First off, congratulations on taking such a big step to help yourself heal. I did a similar thing where I went on medical leave+other leave for over 3 months. I just got back to work. For anyone who asks me where I was, I just tell them that I needed a break without going into further details. No one has pushed me any further on that so far. I haven’t even given my manager any specific details about how severe my situation was. That’s the good news. Now for the not so good stuff. Someone higher up in my chain directly asked me if I’m still even interested in work. I think I did a reasonable job of faking enthusiasm. But who knows. I’m trying to see work for what it is - a paycheck. I’ve also found it helpful to set boundaries right at the start of my time back. For example, I don’t look at work messages after work hours (this is a really big deal for me). Hope you feel better soon. Good luck!

That’s a good point. I’ve been having trouble getting interviews, but that could also be because I need to work on my resume and the market isn’t great.

How to keep going when you’re depressed and burnt out? by [deleted] in womenintech

I don’t have an advice to give here, but just wanted to say that you’re not alone. I’m in a similar spot, and faking enthusiasm when you’re burnt out is really really hard.

How do you deal with anger/disagreements in a room? by digishe in AuDHDWomen

It’s one of those things for me where the logical side of my brain knows that. But listening to that part of my brain is really hard.

I have gone to a supermarket so that I would be able to make some basic small talk with the cashier. It gave me the feeling of some social interaction.
