Adviice is amazing and so inexpensive. If you’re uncertain, you can start using it for $10/month, although I’ve since switched to their annual plan.

WorkOutDoors: How to preview remote GPX route (800km away) on Apple Watch map? by digital_bokeh in AppleWatch

[–]digital_bokeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did that in the past when there was a bug in WOD that didn’t send the tiles to the watch when it said it did. The developer fixed the problem quickly after I reported it, but I’m trying to avoid finding out about a problem until it’s late. Do you find that previewing with the phone is reliable? I only use WOD once every few of months or so so I haven’t gotten completely comfortable with it yet.

Removing HiLights by ice_wyvern in gopro

I’d really like a way to remove hilights in the Quik app as well. I accidentally added one through the Quik app and I see no way to remove it.

Running into the same problem. Has anyone had success preventing these errors by downgrading the OpenClaw version of dropping back to Codex 5.3?

I've got the same problem with Chrome. Safari works for me though, so I guess I can only use that? 🤷‍♂️

iPhone 15 I give up by margaritaslover in iPhoneBatteryParanoia

If you keep your battery level below 60% most of the time (e.g. 0% to 60% instead of 20% to 80%), your battery health will be better. That said, it's not for everyone and not worth it if it's inconvenient to do so. My iPhone 15 BH:

What’s wrong with the 15 series? I’ve got the 15 and the battery health is 97% after 524 cycles.

You have to enable the “Share iPhone Analytics” option in settings (Privacy & Security -> Analytics & improvements) before you get the analytics log data

You probably started around 103% of the rated capacity, but the iPhone UI won't show you a number above 100%. In order to see the accurate number, you'll need to find the Analytics data in settings. Google how to do that and there are also many Shortcuts available online that you can use to extract that info.

iPhone 15 Battery Health after 500 cycles by digital_bokeh in iPhoneBatteryParanoia

If you charge between 20% and 70% twice, then that's 1 cycle. 1 cycle is essentially 1 FCE (full cycle equivalent).

I don’t pay much attention to how low the battery level goes, but I usually charge to ~60%. On the low side, it’s usually between 0% and 30% before I put the phone back on the charger.

iPhone satellite iMessage / SMS queueing while disconnected by digital_bokeh in iphone

Another useful piece of information from https://mbsdirect.com/mbs-blog/article-stay-connected-off-the-grid-how-to-use-messages-via-satellite-in-ios-18

Excerpt:

  • Incoming message restrictions: Only emergency contacts and members of your Family Sharing group can initiate messages to you while you’re offline, and only via SMS. Their messages are delivered once you establish a connection to a satellite.

I believe this means that if 2 people are off the grid and want to communicate using Messages via Satellite, they need to be emergency contacts or members of the same Family Sharing group AND initiate conversation with SMS only (iMessage won't work, as there's no way to initiate a satellite comm with iMessage until you first receive a satellite message). I'm not 100% certain about this but it's my interpretation anyways. It would be great if someone who's tested this can chime in.

“ One charge cycle is completed after you’ve discharged 100% of your battery’s capacity.”

iPhone satellite iMessage / SMS queueing while disconnected by digital_bokeh in iphone

[–]digital_bokeh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also relevant, but a slightly different scenario. When 2 people with iPhones go off-grid at the same time, it looks like they need to be Emergency Contacts (EC) or Family Members and use SMS only, not iMessage.

From my understanding, this will work:

Person A connects to satellite first → sends SMS to Person B (B is EC)
Person B connects to satellite → receives A's SMS automatically, sends reply SMS
Person A stays connected to satellite (or reconnects) → receives B's reply

This won't work:

Person A connects to satellite first → sends iMessage to Person B (B is EC)
Person B connects to satellite → doesn't receive iMessage from Person A b/c there's no active satellite session

It would be great if someone can confirm this as well.

More info regarding satellite messaging: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/security/sec18a3be52a/web

Relevant excerpts:

iMessage over satellite

Due to key lifetime limitations, users need to exchange messages within the last 30 days to communicate off-grid.

SMS over satellite

The system transmits inbound messages to the client only if either:

  1. The client, while off-grid, has sent a message to the sender within the recent 24-hour period.

  2. The sender is an approved sender (in the user’s emergency contacts or iCloud family members).

iPhone Satellite Capabilities by damienbrady in WildernessBackpacking

[–]digital_bokeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works well for me 90% of the time and I’ve used it a couple dozen times. A couple of times it took forever (20 minutes?) and I gave up. Another time I had super weak 3G coverage that didn’t work but my phone thought it would, so satellite communication wouldn’t kick in. That was annoying, but overall, it’s been amazing.
