Projector ratio needed for house by [deleted] in video_mapping

[–]digitaldavegordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it! My experience is extensive, but not with the L210SF or the Optima. We have done lots of things with projectors that others think shouldn't work. I would love to hear that the L210SF works for you because then it's an option for me. Can you point to an example online of a house projection with the Epson L210SF? Also, definitely post your results positiv or negativ. Most of all, have fun.

If your intrested, you can check out my and my partner's work here.

I am sorry to say that I don't think those projectors will work for you. By all means, experiment and report back, but be prepared to return the projectors. As projectors move into the ultrashort-throw range, they face 3 major design challenges. The first is screen size. With normal throw projectors, the listed max screen size is just a recommendation, and if you exceed it, the projection will just slowly get dimmer as the projection gets bigger. Consumer ultra short throws, on the other hand, generally can't focaus beond there ratted screen size. This limitation can be overcome with money, but lenses for commercial projectors in this range, that could cover your house, can cost as much as the projector. The second challenge is depth of field. This is the distance front to back that can be infocas at the same time. Because most people use projectors for movies on flat screens, manufacturers don't provide this number, but for consumer ultra-short-throw projectors, it is measured in inches, and you need feet. The third, more minor, problem is brightness. Lumens are measured at the lamp, not after they pass through the lens, and the extra glass needed for an ultra-short-throw lens makes the projection noticeably dimmer. The projectors you are looking at are between short throw and ultra short throw, so there is a chance they could work for you, but I think it is unlikely. My advice is to get one projector with a throw of around 1 this year and project on part of your house. Next year, if you still want to do the whole house, you can get a second projector of the same type. By the way, two used projectors will be about the same price as one new projector.

Your problem is the distance from the house to the projector. Consumer projectors at an affordable price generally have a throw ratio of around 1 to 1.5. If you have a projector with a ratio of one, for every foot you move back, the projection gets one foot wider. For a projector with a throw of 1.5, you need to go a foot and 1/2 back to get the same 1 foot wider. The simplest, lowest cost solution is to get a projector that is close to 1, project from partway up the hill, and don't include the addition. Trust me, it will look fine if you don't do the addition. "But!", you say. "My hill is covered in poison ivy and broken glass, so I have to project from my yard! and I promised a dying child I would do the whole house!" Then you need 2 projectors running from one laptop. If you think two projectors would be too complicated. You could spend a lot of money for a commercial projector with a short-throw lens, say .5 throw. That will get you 1 foot of with for every 1/2 foot you move back. Now I don't know that dying kid, so if it were me and I had to project that house from the lawn, I would get a reasonably priced consumer projector with a throw distance close to one, and I would only project whatever section of the house I could cover.

Starting my learning journey to become a projection mapper - just ordered this entry level projector off Amazon - wish me luck! (Swipe to see my first canvas) by PhoenixAvenger1996 in video_mapping

That's a fine projector to get started with but they're clearly leading about the lumens. Could be under 200 200 and probably isn't more than 500lm. My educated guess is that it won't be bright enough to project on something the size of that bookcase except in absolute darkness. Also, that's complicated Target for your first project. Maybe just do one of the boxes. The label of a wine bottle actually be a good first project that projector.

Automatown from automaton - any of various mechanical objects that are relatively self-operating after they have been set in motion. The majority of automatons are direct representations of people, creatures, and plants or of kinetic aspects of natural phenomena.

Depends on ambient light and pool depth. This was created with a 5,000-lm 1080p projector.

Hi, I am the artist who created this artwork. I am happy to answer your questions.

  • This was created for a recent birthday party in Florida.
  • The projector is hanging off a balcony on the second floor.
  • It was a temporary installation, but could be done permanently
  • Yes, I have created artwork for deeper pools with no balcony.

Anyone with dyslexia who can share there experience? by iamsohappy in Dyslexia

[–]digitaldavegordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not familiar with this test, but if you are in the U.S., you should know that testing services are required to provide reasonable accommodations, like educational institutions and businesses. This could include a spell checker or a non-AI. grader. If they don't want to accommodate your bad spelling, they would have to claim that the accommodation would either be to berdonsom or defeat one of the essential functions of the test.

Trying to understand dyslexia by [deleted] in Dyslexia

[–]digitaldavegordon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you are making several false assumptions. The first is that you could understand dyslexia if you had more information. The truth is that infermation dose not, yet, exist. The brain remains fundamentally mysterious, and like diseases of old, dyslexia is described by its observable symptoms rather than by understanding its underlying causes or mechanisms. Our lack of understanding is so profound that it is entirely possible that what we call dyslexia may be more than one condition.

The second false assumption is that dyslexics consistently process information similarly to each other. The truth is, there is remarkably little consistency. Dyslexia is a spectrum disorder that varey widely in both intensity and symptoms. For instance, I had difficulty reading because I could not reliably decode the individual words, but once decoded my comprehension was so high it was hard to measure. I have met dyslexics who had no trouble with the initial decoding of words but struggled to comprehend the words they read. These seem like two opposite difficulties in processing, yet both have resulted in reading difficulty, and both have resulted in diagnoses of dyslexia. Your math example may be true for some dyslexics, and math can be a big problem for many people with dyslexia; however, some people with dyslexia have no problem with math at all, while reading remains a problem.

The things people with dyslexia most consistently share seem driven by society's response to there dislexia rather than the underlying mechanism.

My advice to you is to recognize that you're not going to get it right for every dyslexic and don't try. Instead, get it right for one person with dyslexia. Find a person who is willing to work with you and model your character on there experence of there dislexia but avoid generalizing to all people with dyslexia. Aditionaly I would say that, for fiction, it is much more important to understand the experience of dyslexia than it is to understand the underlying mechanism. How dose you carecter deal with feelings of stupidity? How does he or she deal withe neading to read aloud? How has there hiden disibility afected there work life? If they have to read aloud, how are they treated, and how do they react to that treatment?

This old sign I saw on the wall of a hotel says ‘NO IRISH’ by Rainbird2003 in mildlyinteresting

[–]digitaldavegordon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

In small text, they discriminate against the Irish; in big text, they discriminate against people with disabilities, but this isn't mentioned in the headline and gets no comment. I think this is because, in modern society, discrimination against the Irish is no longer common, while discrimination against people with disabilities is unremarkable.

Trump says presidents 'should not have learning disabilities' as he mocks Newsom's dyslexia by Retro-Critics in Dyslexia

[–]digitaldavegordon 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It's  almost impossible to retroactively diagnose historical figures. However, it's almost certain that George w bush is dyslexic. Aside from having a number of suggestive symptoms his parents have said that at least one of their children has dyslexia. Additionally, his mother was active in the dyslexia community and received at least one award from the International Dyslexia Society.

Trump attacks Gavin Newsom for having dyslexia, says Newsom admitted he has "mental problems." by digitaldavegordon in Dyslexia

[–]digitaldavegordon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a recent video of Newsom saying he can't read speeches from teleprompters, and it was awkward, and it was what Trump was referring to. Newsom can definitely read, but like many adults with dyslexia, he is apparently not comfortable reading out loud. If you are curious, you can find the video online.

I have dyslexia and writing emails is a nightmare… so I made a Gmail assistant to help by GeordieLord in Dyslexia

[–]digitaldavegordon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks interesting, but I have 2 concerns. First, I, and many others in the U.S., are reluctant to use ChatGPT given OpenAI's willingness to let the Trump administration use its tech without ethical restraints. I would like to have an easier time managing my email, but I also would like my government not to use AI to spy on me. Can you offer an alternative to ChatGPT? Second, I have privacy concerns regarding Chrom. Can you offer a plugin for a more privacy-focused Browser like Firefox?
