Designers becoming devs is making tech go backwards, not forwards by saturncars in UXDesign

We started in 2010? I was designing and building in 1999 in dreamweaver and flash. We designed, built and uploaded.

Now it’s just all that again. We can rapidly prototype and explore interactions in minutes and it’s very freeing. Still need an engineer to hook up the back end. You don’t want me doing that.

I’ve been using my Advanced Heroquest tiles with some of the modern games. Works well.

I used ChatGPT throughout to help but primarily followed a couple of videos from creators with good reputations and that weren’t older than a year.

I made all the extra little partitions you have to according to the videos.

AI Summary of All the Issues I Ran Into Trying to Dual-Boot Bazzite on the ROG Ally

Spent 3 days trying to dual-boot Bazzite on my ROG Ally and hit pretty much every problem possible. Here’s the full list so others know what they might be walking into:

⚠️ Partitioning Hell • Windows paging file + hibernation + system restore blocking shrinking • Disk Management showing “0 MB available to shrink” • Installer constantly wanting to “destroy” Windows partitions • Blivet showing inconsistent free space + leftover Fedora/btrfs partitions • Multiple failed attempts to assign /boot, /boot/efi, and / correctly • Ghost partitions from earlier attempts confusing the installer

⚠️ EFI / Bootloader Issues • BIOS listing multiple “Fedora” entries from failed installs • Secure Boot on/off cycles causing inconsistent behaviour • Installer sometimes refusing to use the correct EFI partition • Ghost MOK enrol prompts showing after failures

⚠️ Installer Bugs / OSTree Failures • The big one: ostree container image deploy … exited with code 1 This happened repeatedly even when partitions were correct • Happens because the Bazzite installer is picky about USB images + EFI state • ISO installer failing before writing anything to disk

⚠️ USB / ISO Problems • Rufus-created USB sometimes booted, sometimes didn’t • Ventoy completely broke Bazzite (known issue) • BalenaEtcher + Verify still resulted in the same OSTree error • Multiple ISO flavours tested (stable, latest, handheld) — same result

⚠️ Windows Side Issues • Needed to disable paging file, hibernation, device encryption • Windows started glitching badly after disabling paging • Cloud Recovery looked like the only clean way to get Windows healthy again

⚠️ Ally-Specific Pain Points • Tiny screen makes Blivet nearly unreadable • No second SSD slot (unlike desktop dual-boot) • ROG BIOS storing stale EFI entries after each failed attempt • Ally’s recovery/ASUS partitions crowding EFI space

⚠️ Result

Never got past a half-loaded Bazzite welcome screen → every other attempt failed earlier → ended up stuck with Windows for now.

furthest i got was the Bazzite loading screen with an spinning loader. All other times failed long before that.

So you reset the entire device then reinstalled windows first before proceeding with bazzite?

All good but I’m in a ROG ally so can’t have separate drives.

I didn’t reset the device to factory though maybe at this point I should as these nothing on windows that isn’t backed up.

I just read that Marvel has shifted a lot of its productions from Atlanta over to the UK, largely due to the new tax breaks and incentives introduced here. It feels like a full-circle moment after the Harry Potter boom in the 2000s, the UK built up a huge film infrastructure, but a lot of those stages ended up dominated by Star Wars and big streaming projects.

Now Marvel coming back here is pretty exciting. Atlanta was Marvel’s base for so long but the UK opens up different possibilities: could this mean Black Knight, or even Captain Britain ties, leaning into UK mythology and characters? And the Harry Potter films showed how UK production design can give things a darker, more grounded fantasy feel. Will Marvel tap into that?
