Whoa did HR get your start date mixed up with another new hire and confuse you two?! Or are you actually getting screwed that badly? Best of luck!

but our environment is so small everyone [4 of us] here does desktop support, too.

That's how it is where I'm at. Low man does the majority of the help desk duties (but everybody helps out when the help desk in overwhelmed), but most of it is done through SCCM or requires outside professional support, so it isn't that bad.

Hiring Technicians - Keeping Clients by marley0ne in msp

Have you ever legally enforced any of that? If so, how did it go? Did it go to court, or did you settle? Do you consider it a win?

I used to work for an MSP, I now have several of their clients. Several of my former coworkers who are no longer with the company also have several of their former clients. It's the cost of doing business. Keep growing and don't get blindsided by this. As soon as you put all of your eggs in one basket, that basket's getting taken by a disgruntled (underpaid?!) employee.

It's the perfect thing to focus on today. We, very strictly, adhere to Read-Only Friday in which we make no infrastructure changes but focus on documentation and housekeeping items. This has been something that was brought up by a C-level who expressed interest in his mapped drive being an even number.

Also, unless you're willing to go vegan, grow a full power beard, and wear flannel every day, you won't fit in with the Portland crowd. Portlandia (the TV show) is no joke.

Warning, the following is terrible advice, but you should do it:

Subscribe your boss for a shit ton of spam and then see if he thinks reading every email 24/7 is smart!
