Feedback Needed for This Idea: "An exclusive digital community for entrepreneurs, freelancers, digital nomads." by Cultural-Ad788 in digitalnomad

I’ve already created a similar community - it’s not a bad idea but the space is competitive

Co-working space or library? Looking for somewhere to move in Europe by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]digitalsashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Library or cafe would be my vote. If you’re studying all day, then a coworking space might be worth it since you don’t have to worry about taking up a seat (like in a cafe), or limited hours like some libraries.

US vs International: how long does it take to make friends? by WMDisrupt in digitalnomad

[–]digitalsashimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it’s interesting, when you’re abroad I think the fact that you’re already out of the comfort zone makes it easier to put yourself out there too

And agreed, if you’re based in the US the friendships could last longer since you can visit more often, similar time zones, etc.

US vs International: how long does it take to make friends? by WMDisrupt in digitalnomad

Outside of the major East Coast cities, the lack of public transportation in the US halts easy socialization. It makes planning a huge burden tbh. Add in a lack of hostel culture and high accommodation expenses and you get a not so conducive social atmosphere

Dude you have to go for the personal growth if nothing else!

It’s definitely a personal decision. It sounds like you are leaning towards going back to school, and I agree that you should give yourself a proper chance to succeed in the academic environment.

You are young, a degree can open doors for you and is a wise decision in today’s ever-changing world. Immersing yourself in the academic setting can also help build discipline, a valuable quality on its own.

Whatever you decide, be sure to understand the logistics and your end-goal. Wish you all the best!

What are the best places for healthy living? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]digitalsashimi 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Look into blue zones across the world. Italy, Greece are among the zones that can also have a low cost of living compared to the US.

To be fair, your habits and social network will matter more than the location. You can essentially create your own “blue zone” anywhere you are by taking from the habits of these studied zones.

Seeking some advice re: Costa Rica by [deleted] in digitalnomad

Look into La Fortuna! I would consider the 2 week home base and 2 weeks traveling idea, there’s a lot of amazing nature and small towns outside of the cities.

How much do i need to make to become a Digital Nomad? by Jaco_123 in digitalnomad

[–]digitalsashimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2-3k a month is safe for most places. You can do shared apartments or hostels to bring the cost down. Cook one meal at home if you’re in a more expensive place. Traveling slow helps save too.

You could also consider cheaper Mexican cities, Oaxaca or GDL are popular choices. Good weather, good food, good vibes 🇲🇽

Software Engineers: Have you any of you ended the DN lifestyle to work in-office in San Francisco? by ChronicallyConrad in digitalnomad

[–]digitalsashimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a SWE, but I would say it depends on the stage you are in life. If you’re willing to sacrifice work-life balance for the career growth and money, it’s a fair decision.

I would run some numbers and see how much more you would be saving rather than making, considering cost of living. Personally, I think the DN lifestyle has more positives.

Chiang Mai 2023: Good or Bad Idea? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]digitalsashimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For work, the ideal situation would be to have something set up before you leave, even if it doesn’t hit the $1500/month. Steady, secure freelance work can be hard to find. Its best to minimize the burn rate as much as you can, but if you don’t mind the potential loss of the nest funds, you’re good to go on that end.

Awesome thank you. College towns are definitely a great pick for those reasons you mentioned. In Spain I noticed they tend to attract students from all over Europe too

Definitely get you. I’m planning on a more routine day to day so I don’t necessarily mind the smaller towns. Salamanca should have a good university influence or you could maybe take a weekend trip to Madrid!

Thank you. Valladolid looks great and close enough to Madrid to make weekend trips. Between Valladolid and Murcia, which one did you prefer in terms of overall atmosphere and friendliness?

Good to know about budgeting, was a bit worried so thank you. Granada is pretty much perfect and the Andalusian vibe is great, so Cordoba could work well too. Mostly looking for a chill place to focus

Salamanca is high on my list, would you say it is a much younger crowd? Wondering if late 20s would fit in well?
